Effective Formatting for Business Signs

When using signs for your business, the appearance of the sign is very important. The formatting of your sign is just as important as the size and where you hang it. The type of font that you choose directly impacts how the sign looks and how effective it is. There are a few different things that you should know about the font choices you make.

With so many fonts choice s to choose from, how do you know what to pick? First, your font choice should complement the overall look of your sign. It should go well with your logo. The font needs to be easy to read, relay the message you are trying to get out, and be visually stimulating.

In choosing a font that is easy to read, you should pick one that looks good, without a bunch of stuff added. Swirly fonts, scripted fonts, or even calligraphy fonts are elegant, but they are harder to read, especially from a distance. You need a simple font, such a Times New Roman or Comic Sans. If you are leaning toward a more elegant touch, you can choose a font like Georgia. Remember, it needs to be easy to read.

Generally, you should incorporate the same fonts that are used in your logo or company stationary letterheads. If you use these same font types, your sign will have a visually stimulating look. It will also compliment the logo of your company. Using some of the same types of fonts allows customers to have a sense of familiarity to your company and what it is all about.

If you are including smaller sized printed information on your sign, this information should be printed in all capital letters. That way, regardless of how small the print actually is, it will still look bigger and be visible. It will also draw attention to your sign because readers will want to know what that smaller print says, thereby reading the whole sign.

The font can also be related to the impressions and assumptions that people make about your company. For example, if you use a looser and more decorative font, people may assume that your company is more upbeat and relaxed. On the other hand, if you use a more professional font, people may assume that your business sticks to procedure in all aspects of business.

It takes a lot of thought and preparation to design an effective sign for your business. If you consider nothing else crucial, you should think of the font as the defining point of your sign. It can literally mean the difference of whether people actually read your sign or not. Your font choice is just as important as your logo.
