If you have acne, you feel like you spend most of your time looking for remedies. It is one of those areas where there have been continued advancements in skin care treatment and prevention. But, more and more research has also been done to come up with a variety of products that sit on the shelf waiting to confuse you. In actuality, acne skin care treatments are quite easy to understand and purchase.

This article will give you the basics of acne and the three general categories that acne skin care products fall into. The first of these is preventative; that is, those that prevent acne. Then we have those that treat acne once it has occurred but which are freely available without prescription. Finally, we have acne treatment products that can only be prescribed by your dermatologist.

The first two categories are called General or Preventative products and are part of a large skin care and acne market. These include skin creams, cleansers and lotions that are designed to help stop acne in its tracks. When looking to treat acne, we should all use these products to maintain our skin and prevent future outbreaks.

Some of these products act like acne skin care products and act against the causes of acne. This includes when pores become clogged with oil or bacteria, which can cause the problem to increase these can be bought over the counter or on the Internet. They can be used to remove dead skin cells and other pollutants by cleaning the words and reducing the chances of any bacterial growth.

There is a big market for these types of acne skin care products because they don't require a doctor's prescription and in most cases. They do go a long way to reduce excess oil that bacteria needs to promote the development of acne

It usually has an active ingredient called benzyl peroxide, which most dermatologists recommend for any to decide to use it to be used in low concentrations of no more than 5.5 parts per hundred. With all medications, whether over the counter or via prescription, there is a trial and error period. Be patient with your skin care regimen, and give it time to work. You might have to consult with a dermatologist in the end to get the proper advice.

There are also products which are dermatologists or family physician will recommend, which could include antibiotics or topical ointments. Be warned however, don't attempt this on your own or you could cause yourself serious skin problems.

Hormone changes are also at times responsible for acne outbreaks, and you may need to get a prescription. Prescription medication can prove to be quite effective in many cases where hormonal changes are at the root of the problem. If you balance your hormones, you wind up eliminating the condition. All in all acne can be treated many different ways and research goes one to come up with better and better products. Sometimes it just takes patience and speaking with your dermatologist to get an effective skin care treatment that will work for you.
