As we age, our body burns fewer and fewer calories. Women tend to begin to add on additional weight at a higher rate than men do when this begins to happen. It does not have to be that way. By making a few changes in your daily routine, it is possible to increase the amount of calories you burn and compensate for your body's metabolism slow down. Here are a few suggestions to help you from succumbing to age related weight gain.

Did you know that digesting ice cold beverages and foods boosts your metabolism? Doing this will not result in a significant caloric decrease, but every little bit helps, right? Five to six glasses a day should account for about a ten calorie reduction which could translate into a one pound loss within a year. Also be aware that water alone is a metabolism booster. Hydration is necessary to keep the body operating efficiently. Dehydration actually lowers your metabolism rate.

As you lose weight, your resting metabolism drops. That means you are burning fewer calories when you are inactive. That can be a problem if you are an evening snack eater. To maintain your fat lose and muscle gain you have to keep your caloric intake low and increase your aerobic output. How about a nice leisurely walk in the evening instead of a snack?

Hot foods will fire up your metabolism and reduce your hunger sensation. A tablespoon of chopped red or green chili pepper resulted in a temporary 23 percent boost in metabolism in one group. It is not suggested you gobble a tablespoon of raw chili pepper. Find creative ways to include them in your daily food intake.

Fresh grapefruit and tangerine, although they do not appear high on the metabolism boosting fruit list, are nonetheless excellent fruits to add to your daily eating regiment when pursuing a weight loss program. Eat half a grapefruit or tangerine instead of soup or salad before your meal's main course. The fiber and water will fill you up on fewer calories so you eat less. One group loss 4 pounds in 12 weeks using this method according to an article published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.

The catechins found in oolong tea and green tea can boost your body's fat burning furnace. Drinking a couple of cups of either tea daily can translate into an extra 50 calories per day burned or about five pounds worth per year.

Being hormonal can produce up to a 300 calorie burn per day during that period of the month. Women's resting metabolic rate generally increases during part of their menstrual cycle. Usually some time in between the day after ovulation until the first day of their period is when this metabolic shift occurs. This could be effective weight loss energy if you do not give in to your food and snack cravings.

There you have it, five effective weight loss management techniques you can use that don't involve less eating or more exercise, how about that? Increasing your metabolic rate is a very effective way to increase caloric burn. There are a number of other effective methods available. Try Googling "metabolism" and see what you find.
