Egg Donation

A couple can find it difficult to conceive when trying to have a child. This can become very frustrating physically as well as mental. There are a lot of specifications when it comes to being eligible to donate your eggs. Different clinics and doctors have their own rules but most are standard. The age recommended for donating and egg is 21 and the maximum age is 35. The older the woman is, the less useful the egg can turn out to be, it may not respond well to the fertility drugs, and could even be abnormal. A young woman in her 20s are usual very fertile, this being the age when most pregnancies often occur. That is why a younger aged woman makes for a better option when donating an egg.

When deciding to become an egg donor many visits to the doctor before the donation is an absolute must. These visits may or may not include a gynecological and physical exam, a psychological exam, blood and urine tests as well as a medical and family history, depending on the procedures at that facility. Why are all those tests needed? The doctor wants to be absolutely certain that you are a healthy, mentally stable candidate for this procedure. No family wants to find out later on in life that their child has a severe mental or physical problem. Taking precautions before the initial conception is a must! You will also discuss your rights and responsibilities for the egg donation program. You must pass all the evaluations and be accepted to move on with the process and be matched with the woman or women you will be donating your eggs to. Be prepared to fill out a lot of paperwork and documentation, and consent forms during this whole process, it is not meant to over whelm you, it is just a legal precaution that must be taken.

When all of the consent forms and paper work are correct and finished the next step for the egg donor will be in vitro fertilization. This is a serious of fertility drugs you will take to stimulate your ovaries to produce as many eggs possible. You will have many medical tests run during this process to make sure everything is going smoothly with the treatment and process. If the drugs take well to your body and you are able to produce a "good egg" then the next step in a minor surgery to remove the eggs from your ovaries. Once this is done and you are recovered from the surgery, your part of the donation process is now over.

The next process will be with the intended father's sperm. The sperm and the egg will now be mixed in a lab, if an embryo is the end result, they will be grown in a lab dish until one or more will be retrieved to put into the candidates uterus.

Now here comes the hard part that a woman must make sure she is absolutely positively okay with, before she decides to donate one of her eggs. Once the egg or eggs are inserted into uterus, and the women takes well to it, or them and becomes pregnant, she will be the baby's birth mother and biological mother, even though it was your egg. Some women want to change their mind after the baby is born and claim because it was their egg that it is their baby, this is however, not the case. By signing the documents at the beginning of this process you signed all the legal rights away. Please take this into consideration before you even think about donating and egg.
