Egg Recall Due to Salmonella OutBreak

Bandit
The salmonella outbreak in eggs began May 2010. The tainted eggs were processed in Iowa by Wright County Egg and since then, many people have become ill from consuming these tainted eggs. Eggs that were packaged from beginning on May 16, 2010 through August 13, 2010 were on a nationwide recall list.

The eggs that were packaged in Galt, Iowa, by Wright County Eggs and according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these eggs seem to be the cause to several illnesses in three states, which are Colorado, California and Minnesota. During the weeks of June and July of 2010, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported at least 200 cases of salmonella linked to eggs.

Since the salmonella outbreak from tainted eggs, there have been at least 1300 people who have became ill and the health officials do think that this number will be on the increase. There have been half a billion eggs that have been recalled so far since the salmonella outbreak began back in May of this year and many consumers like myself, as well as the workers in the food industry, are very confused over the egg recall.

Even though Texas has not seen the brunt of the egg recall, there were 165 illnesses reported in several states around Texas due to the salmonella outbreak. In many states here in North Texas, Wal-Mart began to pull their eggs from the shelves. There have been 35 cases of salmonella reported here in North Texas and those illnesses were caused from the recent egg recalls. This egg recall is so confusing because of the fact that there are only two egg producers, and then these two farms ship out there eggs and use at least two dozen brand names for these eggs, but out of all these eggs, there are just a few of the brands that are on the recall list.

Hillandale Farms in Iowa began to recall their shell eggs voluntarily because the eggs could have possibly been contaminated with salmonella. The new list which was expanded on August 21, 2010 contained eggs that were shipped to 14 states which are: Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin. There are several brands of eggs from the latest recall list. Here are just a few: Farm Fresh, Ralphs, and Lund.

Before consuming any eggs that are in your refrigerator, carefully check your eggs first. Look on the end of every egg carton for a number, which is stamped on the carton. The number starts with a P. Look closely for the numbers P1720 or P1942 and a three-digit number that follows.

If that three-digit number falls within 136 to 229, these are the eggs, which are on the recall list. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are urging all consumers to return any contaminated eggs back to the store where they purchased them and receive a full refund for these eggs.

Health officials tell consumers to be sure and cook any eggs thoroughly before eating them or to use liquid or pasteurized eggs.
