Eggnog-Inspired Makeup Look for the Holidays

Sarah Afshar
One of the best things about the holidays is the lights and decorations, as well as, festivities. But one can also agree that one of the best things about the holidays is the food. In fact, the holidays without the seasonal food is like winter without the snow. And let's face it, nothing says "Happy Holidays" more than eggnog. I have decided to create a holiday inspired makeup look that is fun and fab that anyone can wear.

You want to start by applying your foundation. Whether you want to wear a primer is completely optional, however; if you want your makeup to last, then I totally suggest it. Once you have completed your regular foundation routine, you can also apply conceal. After you have applied everything you want, you can go ahead and apply something to set your foundation. This can be anything from a translucent powder to mica powder to setting powder to even an array of skin finishes. If you are looking for a great skin finish product, I definitely recommend Mac's "Mineral Skin Finish" as it is light, but also natural and quite effective.

As you can continue, you want to prime your entire lid. Although a primer is usually necessary and optional for many inspired looks, for the eggnog inspired makeup look, we are going to use Mac's Paint Pot in "Bare Canvas" which is a beautiful champagne shade with shimmer. You want to first start out by applying this product all over the lid up to the brown bone.

Once you have accomplished prepping your eye, you want to apply an ivory eye shadow. Something that possesses shimmer. I am going to use Illamasqua's "Shiver" which is a beautiful ivory shimmer shade. You want to apply the shadow all over the lid, going slightly up towards the crease.

The darkest eye shadow we will be using is going to be something that is on a deep green wavelength. Something that possesses shimmer. With the eggnog inspired make-up look, I am going to use Guerlain's "L'Instant Emeraude 181" which is a beautiful deep golden green. Remember, that although these products are optional, they are not required. An affordable alterative to this eye shadow is definitely NYX's "Exotic Green".

The key to any eye look is blending. You want to blend the crease, smoking out the darker shade. For a highlight, you want to use something that is white, yet light and shimmer. I am going to use Urban Decay's "Polyester Bride" which is a beautiful, yet subtle white shimmer. You can build the color, so reapply if needed.

Sometimes applying liner before the eye shadow is necessary, however; with this inspired make-up look, it is required after. You want to use gel liner to create this look and you want to use a dark green shade. If you are looking for an amazing gel liner that matches the essential color, I recommend Bobbi Brown's Long Wear Gel Liner in "Forest Ink". If you are budget conscious, do not hesitate to check out Coastal Scents Gel Liner in "Envious", as it works well for as affordable as it is.

The eyebrows should be natural, however; you can dramatize them for this look. It is not required, as it is entirely elective to you. If you do decide to do something with your eyebrows, use something that is more powder based rather than pencil or pen based.

You want to line the top half of your eye. Apply it straight across, but stop at the corner and wing it up. Kind of like when you use liquid liner. Then line the bottom part of your eye, including your waterline. You can also tight line the upper part of your eye, however; that is entirely optional to you. In case you are wondering what tight lining actually is, it's when you line the upper waterline.

You don't have to change your mascara, but I strongly suggest doing so for this look. You want to use a gold mascara. Today, I am going to use NYX's Mascara in "Gold". The thing to love about this mascara is the fact that it works great and it's only $5.00. The mascara makes this inspired look, so I strongly suggest using it.

The lips in this look are red. You are going to want to use more of a cool or neutral red, rather than a warm red. Any red shade will do, however; if you want to try this look spot on, you have to use Urban Decay's lipstick in "Revolution" which is a very vibrant, yet bright, cool (with a partial neutral undertone) red lipstick.

The cheeks should be more luminous and frosty than matte and natural. Although this will vary upon skin tone, you want to use something that is on a pink wavelength with some shimmer. For this look, I have chosen NAR's "Orgasm" which is a beautiful shimmer pink blush with gold undertones.

You have created this look, with the holidays in mind and the great news is, you can now take your "Eggnog Inspired Make-Up Look" and head shopping or to the nearest Christmas party.
