Eharmony is really designed to find long-lasting relationships and ultimately long-lasting marriages. The 29 layers of compatibility do bring a level of selective matching to the online dating process.
The first thing about Eharmony to notice is the price. To communicate or see photos, you have to sign up for the service which can be expensive, especially in this economy. A one-month membership is at least $30. Now you can sign up for longer memberships but that can be expensive and you have to pay for the whole subscription all up-front. I believe a year's subscription was around $250 which is pretty high for a dating site, especially if you find someone early, you are paying for a service which you are no longer using.
The questionnaire process is quite long, it takes over an hour to do the entire list of questions. It is a good idea to take your time and do that with a large chunk of time so you don't feel like you are rushed all the time.
From there, the site will send you your potential matches. You do not have the opportunity to browse potential matches which does limit your options and take the guesswork out of dating. It can slow down the process because there are times when you won't get a lot of matches at once. When you do get a match, you have a chance to start in the communication process. There are four stages to the process. You first start by answering five multiple-choice questions. Then you get to send what you must have and what you can't stand in a potential mate. Then there are three essay questions to answer before reading the message from the company's founder. Then there is open communication where you can write each other with message a la e-mail.
The system can work depending on how much you want it to work. It is recommended to communicate with as many as you can so you have a better chance of getting dates and having dating success. If you don't do that, the system really won't work for you.
The quality of the matches are high, there has been personal friends that have found success with this system. If you are really serious about finding you r special someone, it might be worth putting up the money and giving it a try.
