Eid - A Muslim Holiday

Jack Shalt
When you see people running around looking for the moon because it is the end of Ramadan, then you know it is Eid. Eid is a religious holiday as well as a cultural celebration that is celebrated by the many Muslims in my community. During Eid we pray to our lord. Also, we go to the graveyard to give our prayers to the deceased and then we go to a large gathering usually with relatives or friends. We always have fun during Eid because it is mostly a time of celebration forced by our lord. Eid is a memorable event to people of all ages.

Eid is a cultural celebration celebrated in my community. During Eid we go to pray. We go to pray to our lord before we start the day and celebration. We are still in remembrance of him. Many people go to different places to pray. The people around my community go to the local mosque. A speech is followed right after the prayers. It is always crowded during Eid prayers and also people give many donations before these prayers begin.

We don't only go to prayers, but also to the graveyard. We go to the graveyard after prayers to give our pray for the deceased. Usually many people go in groups. The graveyard is usually also off limits during this time to many other visitors. All of the people from my community come. We hope that when we are deceased that people will pray for us too. Many of us have wishes of entering the ultimate rewards of paradise so we hope hope for many congregated prayers on our behalf.

During Eid we don't only pray. After the special prayers we go to a community or relative celebration. In this celebration the children receive gifts or money. We also are obliged to eat and can't fast during this day. During the gathering is where everyone eats and plays. Usually these gatherings are held in large or small halls and mosques. Sometimes one portion of an extended family is left in charge of keeping the whole celebration as kids get presents and the adults have a conversation.

Eid is a cultural celebration that is celebrated in my community. During Eid we go and pray. Then we go to the graveyard and after we have a gathering. It is important that our community contributes to this celebration because it helps the diversity of other cultures to arise.
