On the night before Eid
We were happy indeed
My friends and I were so very excited
Just an hour ago the new moon was sighted
A sliver lit up so vividly by the falling sun
Hinting to us that tomorrow would be lots of fun
Bringing joy to the gazing eyes
As it faded into the dusking skies
Anticipation building in me like a buzz
Forgetting about all the trouble that was
Filling my mind up just a few days ago
A bonus was that at school I'd be a no-show!
Counting down impatiently the remaining hours
Until we'd wake up and take our morning showers
Sleeping was the last thing I wanted to do!
Eid
Two Eids, both unique
After a month of fasting
And after the Hajj
The gifts of Eid
The real joy from Eid
Comes in the simple things
Like greeting someone you haven't seen for years
And smelling the cologne and perfume and desserts
Receiving a hug, a gift, or new notes straight from the mint
And knowing that relatives across the ocean are also celebrating
And feeling happy for completing one's religious duty
And hearing that there will be a picnic soon
And having the chance to see a new year
And being with friends
Both old and young

I'm not familiar with EID but this is still a great poem. All holidays are about the people you share them with.
