Aside from the miraculous performance of Big Brown coming from 20th position to win the Derby (it's the second time in the 134 years of Derby that has happened), there was an unexpected turn: the second place finisher Eight Belles broke both her front legs and had to be euthanized on the track.
A horse ambulance (and a regular one) quickly came to the track once the jockey fell off of her.
Sorry to be late-breaking, but I was at the TV station and didn't know it had occurred until the 11 o'clock news. Below is footage from MSNsports of what happened; my sympathies to the owners and trainer.

Post a CommentThis was so sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was so sad . . . . and struck so many horse-lovers' hearts. (By the way, I wrote a news item and a poem on AC about this. I was cheering for EIGHT BELLES throughout the race. How sad!)
