More and more spas are turning to natural remedies to improve skin texture and tone, and organic skin care products are becoming a top choice for facial treatments and skin care solutions.
Still, you don't have to pay a hefty spa price to enjoy the benefits of a natural, soothing treatment at home. An at-home facial made with just a few simple ingredients in the fridge is all you need to enjoy some of nature's most potent, skin-enhancing gifts. Here are just eight foods you can use for a great at-home facial:
1. Oatmeal. If your skin is irritated or excessively dry, oatmeal can serve as a skin soothing agent. Just mix together ¼ cup oatmeal with 6 oz. of plain yogurt and 1 teaspoon of honey to form a paste. Massage onto skin and leave it for at least 30 minutes until washing it off.
2. Avocado. Just mash half an avocado in a small bowl, and apply it to your face immediately. Avocado is chock full of nutrients and fats that can leave your skin soft and supple.
3. Peaches. Fresh peaches mashed together to form a pulp are perfect for your at-home facial. They contain vitamins and minerals that get absorbed into the skin within minutes. Just apply it to the face for a moisturizing mask.
4. Cucumber and yogurt. If your face is irritated or you just want to cool off on a particularly hot day, blend together a few slices of cucumber with 2 tablespoons of yogurt to create a mask. This soothing and cooling mask can help you relax after a stressful day.
5. Fresh strawberries. Strawberries are a rich source of antioxidants that can leave skin tight, glowing and youthful within half an hour. Just mix together ¼ cup of extra-ripe strawberries with a teaspoon of honey to form a paste and leave it on your skin for at least 20 minutes for the best effect.
6. Bananas. Bananas mixed with honey and milk create a moisturizing mask that can also work well as a stress-relieving treatment. Just mash up one banana with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1/8 cup of milk to form a paste. Apply it generously to the face and neck and leave it to set for at least 15 minutes before washing off.
7. Egg whites. Just one egg white mixed with fresh aloe vera juice and a teaspoon of apple juice can make a potent facial treatment that will open up pores and leave skin refreshed and glowing.
8. Egg yolks. Using only egg yolks for your at-home facial mask will give you a super-moisturizing formula. Mix it with a teaspoon of honey for even more benefits.
The best way to begin your at-home facial is with a simple steam bath or sauna, followed by a mask of your selected food. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then wash your face with warm water and pat dry. You can apply a thin layer of moisturizer after the treatment, and enjoy your healthy glow!
