1) Vomiting
If you have caught a bug and are making frequent visits to the bathroom then you are not able to work. Your boss will fully understand this and not ask any more questions.
2) Flu or common cold
If you are calling in to say you have the flu, phone as soon as you wake up when your voice is hoarser and your nose is stuffy. This will make it sound more believable. Do not go on to the phone bouncy full of life as it will be pretty obvious you are conning your boss and work mates. With this excuse you should be able to have at least 3 days off work. If it is winter time and many of colleagues have had the flu in recent weeks then your excuse will be all the more believable.
3) Food poisoning
Another case for vomiting and perhaps diarrhoea which lets you spend a day in bed. However if it becomes known that you enjoyed several glasses of red wine to your dinner then your boss will not believe you if you use this excuse ever again.
4) Migraine or general headache
If you have frequent migraines which leave you bedridden then this will be another believable excuse for a day off work. If you keep your boss informed of your migraines and how frequent they are and how you treat them then he will be more understanding.
5) Stress due to ill relative
If you have a terminally ill relative who you support then some time off for carers leave or as a result of stress will not be held against you.
6) Broken bone
If you have had a fall and turn up at work with broken bones then you will be granted several weeks off work for recovery.
7) Diarrhoea
If you have the runs your boss will want you nowhere near the workplace firstly as he will not want the rest of his staff infected and secondly the smell.
8) Time of the month
If you are female you can easily phone up and say you have stomach cramps, and there will be no further questions asked if your boss is male.
If you are the type of person who seldom phones in sick then your boss will likely believe anything you tell them, whereas if you are frequently off sick then he may doubt you. If you work hard while you are at work then there is a good chance everyone will believe you are genuine when you say you are ill. However any of the excuses above should help convince him that you were genuinely sick.
