Eight Signs Your New Relationship Will End Badly

I researched blogs with the "relationship" tag for red flags in relationships and asked for red flags of past relationships from my own blog readers. Sadly, more than one of these came from one person's blog. It is astounding how often people commit these very same love crimes. Don't be one of them.

You have taken naked pictures or let someone take them of you
Naked pictures always come back to haunt you, if only in your dreams. I know, you're an uninhibited exhibitionist and you and Pooky are never ever going to break up. But later when you are posting all those angry blogs about how he is distributing them online (and maybe even made a little money off them if you're hot) you will wish you had never bought that digital camera. It's film cameras only for you from now on!

He is old enough to be your dad and your first date was made via email
A forty year old man should have learned to use a telephone by now. If he says this is the the first time he ever asked anyone out on a date, bolt from his dusty basement now.

He writes strange missives in the middle of the night and blames it on sleeping pills the next day
Do you want to sleep next to someone who has that going on in his subconscious. This is especially bad when you are in the getting to know you phase and you realize he is so possessive he needs to check up on you in his sleep.

You are fighting via myspace over something that happened on myspace
Who cares if your "online now" icon was on but you didn't talk to him every minute you were in Colorado with your parents. Maybe you logged in to myspace and forgot to log out when you left the computer. People, it should not be bad etiquette to read an email and then wait awhile to reply. And users who argue on message boards are a step below the tax collectors in the circles of hell.

The following sentence should never be uttered by a man
"You must have had some contact with John yesterday after I dropped you off. He called me about 10 times and called Jane over and over. He twisted a story to say that I told you that he and Jane were dating."
What exactly does that sentence attempt to communicate? I have read it twenty times and I still don't understand the political ramifications. However, I know drama when I see it and the guy that writes something like this three days after he first asks you out is a drama king. Can you imagine how convoluted things will get when these two people ("you" and "me", not "John" and "Jane") start fighting amongst themselves as couples invariably do?

She is promising not to drink and then getting wasted the same night
Both people raise red flags in this scenario. First of all, her behavior is that of someone who may be too immature to be in a serious relationship. But the fact that she feels it is necessary to make promises like this to her new man means he is a bit controlling. In a relationship you either party together or break up. If one person stays home while the other hits the bars the homebody will always end up writing a country song about the relationship after it is over.

You tell her she can have one shot at the bar and she buys a round for her friends on your card
Friends, we're dealing with a skank here. You can't start the whole "what's yours is ours" behavior until you are living together and sharing expenses.

He sends her emails telling her they are through
And she posts his emails on her blog followed by emails he sends when they get back together. These are followed by more breakup emails and her editorial insistence that he wants her back. People should be required to get a license to date.
