First, and most importantly, stop smoking if you are in fact a smoker. And try to help the people that smoke around you realize the health benefits and importance of them quitting too! Tobacco use leads to heart disease. Within one year of quitting your body will be back to almost 100% health, as if you never even smoked in the first place!
Lower your bad cholesterol, better known as LDL, and raise your good cholesterol, HDL. Cutting out fried and fatty foods and adding more good fats and fruits and vegetables to your diet will be a great benefit to your heart's health.
Keeping yourself at a healthy weight, and making sure to get rid of that excess and extra dangerous weight around your middle, will also reduce your risk of heart disease. Obesity is a very deadly disease and way too many people suffer from it.
Be sure to exercise regularly. Moderate intensity exercise is important to get your heart rate up. Fitness can be as simple as a twenty minute brisk walk on a daily basis. Exercise will also help you with maintaining that healthy weight.
Cut out saturated fats and opt for healthy fats like the Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in fish and nuts instead. Choose to eat more fiber too. This will help your internal system be regular. Fruits and vegetables, again, are always recommended as great health foods for weight loss, heart health and more!
The right amount of sleep will also help to reduce stress and help to make sure that your body is functioning properly. Cortisol, levels, which lead to weight gain and heart disease, can also be raised with too little sleep. Sleep is also needed for better blood pressure.
Lower your alcohol consumption. It can raise blood pressure (one of the reasons your cheeks turn red when you are drinking).
Lastly, manage your stress. Get a massage, meditate and exercise. All of these are great ways to get natural stress relief.
