Eight Ways to Take Care of Yourself While Your Baby Naps

Susan Damm
If you're a mother you most certainly know the challenge of balancing motherhood, womanhood, family and countless other obligations. Naptime is the perfect time to take care of yourself; not your husband, not your family, not your friends - you; when you just cannot find enough hours in the day.

While Your Baby Naps: Give Yourself a Manicure and Pedicure
Make sure you always have plenty of nail polish remover and different shades of nail polish available so that you can sneak in a quick Mani/Pedi while your baby is fast asleep. If you don't already have one, invest in a nail kit to help keep your nails in tip-top shape.

While Your Baby Naps: Workout
Nothing elevates the mood and gets the endorphins flowing like exercise. You can use your own gym equipment, workout DVDs or simply dance around the house to your favorite song to stay in shape while Junior is in dreamland.

While Your Baby Naps: Give Yourself a Mini-Facial
Keep your skin looking fresh and vibrant (even if you're not feeling that way). Here is a great and refreshing facial mask recipe to try -
1 tablespoon of full fat yogurt
1 tablespoon of chopped parsley
1 tablespoon of chopped cucumber
Combine all of your ingredients and puree in a blender. Apply mask to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

While Your Baby Naps: Call an Old Friend
Sometimes the early years of motherhood can feel lonely, especially if you stay at home. Use this opportunity to call a friend and catch up.

While Your Baby Naps: Work on your Hobby
Whether it be gardening, putting together scrapbooks or writing poetry, use this time hone your skills and have a little fun doing something you love.

While Your Baby Naps: Take a Bath
Nothing soothes the soul better than piping hot water and peace and quiet. Put on relaxing music, light a few candles, and slip into a bubble bath.

While Your Baby Naps: Read
Get lost in someone else's fictional world by catching up on those books collecting dust on your bookshelf, or if you'd prefer, pick up a magazine and read the latest gossip surrounding your favorite celebrities.

While Your Baby Naps: Nap Yourself
New mothers are sure to be just as tired as their sleeping baby. Take Junior's lead and take a nap yourself.

Sometimes mothers are so busy taking care of everyone else's needs that they neglect their own. Naptime is the perfect opportunity to do something for yourself, whether it is one of these eight tips or something else that is special to you. Motherhood is a joy, and so is womanhood. Embrace them both.
