Eighteen Years Apart

Sandra Hatfield
Eighteen years ago I was born.

Eighteen years ago, you became a sister and a best friend.

Eighteen years ago, I held your finger.

Eighteen years ago, you held me in your arms.

Six years pass and I began first grade.

Six years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

Six years pass and I held your hand across the streets.

Six years ago, you still held me in your arms.

Fifteen years pass and I began the first year in high school.

Fifteen years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

Fifteen years pass and I held your hand through the hard times.

Fifteen years pass and you still held me in your arms.

Eighteen years pass and I graduated from high school.

Eighteen years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

Eighteen years pass and I held your hand when you got married.

Eighteen years pass and you still held me in your arms.

Twenty-three years pass and I am in collage now.

Twenty-three years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

Twenty-three years pass and I still hold your hand through the good and the bad.

Twenty-three years pass and you still hold me in your arms.

Twenty-six years pass and I am finished with collage.

Twenty-six years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

Twenty-six years pass and I hold your hand.

Twenty-six years pass and you are still my sister and my best friend.

For the years to pass I will find my own place in the world.

For the years to pass you will always be my sister and my best friend.

For the years to pass I will still hold your hand through the good and the bad.

For the years to pass you will still hold me in your arms.

For Sisters and Best Friends are Forever!
