Enter El Charro and step into a recreated world of Hispanic hospitality. Walls are painted in bright, vivid colors and the decor includes greenery and other touches of Old Mexico. Dining areas are divided into small, intimate sections and no matter where you are seated, you will enjoy the feeling of privacy.
Waiter service is offered and these servers are very attentive. From the time they seat you and provide menus to taking drink orders and bringing the complimentary chips and salsa, El Charro's waiters will take care of your dining needs. All the favorite soft drinks, iced tea, and coffee are available but no alcholic beverages due to local liquor restrictions.
Those baskets of complimentary chips are delicious, made right at the restauarant and are fresh, served hot. Individual bowls of salsa - also homemade and absolutely to die for - are placed at each diner's place.
Diners can crunch on chips dipped in the fabulous salsa while pondering the extensive menu and while waiting for dinner (or lunch!) to be served. The servers will bring more as long as you want without complaint.
That menu includes everything from fantastic appetizers to a taco salad with a home baked shell that is huge and wonderful to an assortment of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, nachos, tamales, and more. If it's a Mexican dish, it will be available on the El Charro Menu.
It's difficult to choose because it's all so good but some of my personal favorites are the tamales, the Loco Burrito (a huge, plate sized burrito stuffed with your choice of lean beef steak or tender chicken breast and covered with cheese sauce), the cheese enchiladas, and the tacos.
Daily specials offer extra savings and be sure to check the last page of the menu for a variety of lunch specials that are available every day including weekends.
Portions are huge and you won't leave hungry. Side dishes such as guacamole salad, refried beans, and Spanish rice are also taste treats. They're not just good - they are very, very good.
I have eaten Mexican food in many places, from California to New Mexico to Texas and El Charro outdoes them all. This a great benefit of the recent influx of many Hispanic people into Missouri and if you choose to dine at El Charro, whether it's for a quick lunch, special dinner, or happy occasion, you will not be disappointed.
