Do you live around central San Diego and want to try out some unique Mexican Food flavors? El Zarape is located in the University Heights area of San Diego. You are definitely in for a treat when you go to El Zarape Mexican Restaurant. El Zarape is a cozy casual Mexican restaurant that serves a variety of classic and creative Mexican cuisine.
The prices are very in expensive, and it is an order and sit restaurant and very casual. The great thing is that after you eat at this restaurant you can choose to go to a nearby club if you wanted stay out since there are many bars in the area next to it.
When you enter El Zarape you usually know that this is a popular place to eat since the line sometimes goes out the door. There are always nice friendly people working there, and the great thing is they have a salsa bar so you can choose which ones you want on your food. Parking sometimes can be tricky, but if you go down one of the residential streets you can usually find a spot. I suggest if you are going there for dinner, to get there before 9:30 pm since that is about the time they usually close.
El Zarape is well known for vegetarian, sea food, and original Mexican menu items. If you like vegetarian Mexican food some great options include: the potato rolled tacos, cheese ques and Tofu burritos. If you like seafood, El Zarape also has very yummy menu items to offer. Popular sea food items include the shrimp tacos, lobster quesadilla, salmon tacos, fish tacos, and scallop burritos.
Other favorites that customers love at El Zarape include the original carne-asada plate, tacos, or burrito, enchiladas, and my favorite is the Aloha burrito. The Aloha burrito includes teriyaki ham, with carne asada, pine apple, and onions. It sounds like a weird combination, but it is actually very delicious. They also have carne asada French fries that are a meal within itself.
El Zarape is also opening another restaurant in the Normal Heights neighborhood that is not to far from the original one. The new restaurant is expected to have more sitting space, but both will have very delicious and inexpensive Mexican food. So next time you are around University Heights in San Diego, and want to try some unique Mexican food try El Zarape.
