ElamTutoring is using the so-called "skeletal method" to tutor its students

It all started when Csilla Elam became frustrated with the prices traditional tutoring companies charge students and the huge percentage companies would charge their tutors to conduct face to face tutoring, but also with the observation of inability of her classmates to understand the material under her teachers' instruction.

Csilla Elam always had a knack for school. Ever since she was a little girl, she would listen to her teachers explaining the material to one of her fellow classmates who did not understand the topic at hand, but soon got frustrated with the way they would complicate their explanation. It just left the student more confused. She felt like jumping out of her chair and telling the teacher, " There is an easier way to explain this".

Finally, after some experience working for different tutoring companies, Elam started her own tutoring business in Birmingham, AL . First she started out offering tutoring sessions face to face in Math and Biology at a low price. Students and parents were excited as their grades were improving. For students who started out with an F when they came to ElamTutoring, increasing their grades by two letters in just two months was definitely a success.

More students and parents started calling and Elam believed that it was time to license the bussines. Therefore, ElamTutoring carries a business license in the cities of Hoover and Birmingham, AL.

"It's not magic", says Elam, "it is passion combined with the gift of knowing how to break down what seems impossible for the student to comprehend. I call it my own method, the skeletal method".

The "skeletal method", according to Elam , is a method that it is supposed to help students build layer-upon-layer of information by making the information simple. Too often schools will complicate the lessons by adding extra information that students do not care about. By the time they need to learn what should have been taught first, they already have developed a repulsion towards the material. " You have about ten minutes to show your student how simple it is; after that, you lost them", says Elam.

Elam admits it was not always easy when she started, but with time and experience she found what makes a that light go on in a student's mind. Hard work, commitment, and patience is necessary from both student and tutor. Together they equal, effectiveness.

" Nothing is more pleasing to my ears than to hear from my students that I made math easy as a piece of cake"( Elam).

ElamTutoring has just introduced online tutoring, also, which is loved already by many students because it is convenient, very professional, and live. Tutor and student schedule the time they want to get online for live tutoring. It is not something recorded ahead of time. You have the option to be live with your tutor from the comfort of your home. No more running around for parents to take their kids to tutoring sessions. Parents can rest or finish their laundry after a long day at work while they children are receiving quality assistance.

This program is also great for adults. Many adults considering returning to college would love assistance with a subject, but to drive to one more place after a long day at work it is just too much. Now, with online tutoring, they can easily log in and meet the tutor live and interact with the tutor, while sipping on their hot chocolate and wearing pajamas.

ElamTutoring program offers assistance with different subjects. First session is free where the student and tutor get acquainted and the tutor learn more about the student's need. Next is a short assessment the student will receive in order for tutor to know what are the areas student need to improve. The methos Elam uses is called , " the skeletal method" where information is broken down into pieces and layered in such a way that students' knowledge is complete over time. But, that is not all; students are also taught how to take notes and how to find the information themselves in a timely manner, expecially on the ACT exam, where time is not a luxury.
