Election 2008: Can Hillary Do It?

I feel the need to preface this article with the fact that I am not a very political person. I am a registered Republican, but I am much more middle of the road, like most people. I am pro-gun and pro-choice. Think that the ACLU is far more dangerous than they are helpful. I support my troops, but I wish they weren't at war. I voted for a Bush and a Clinton. I like Toby Keith-and the Dixie Chicks. I am an enigma.

The election of 2008 poses a dilemma for me...am I to be a traitor to my party or to my gender? Hillary Clinton, as of right now, is one of my Senators. To be quite honest, I am not impressed. Her senate campaign promise was to make the Upstate New York economy her "first order of business," yet companies are still cutting jobs left and right. For example, upstate company Kodak just cut 3,000 more jobs earlier this month. According to the New York Department of Labor, 54 of the last 55 months have seen a decline of jobs in the private sector. There were promises of credits and tax cuts, which will win an election in New York for anyone, yet I haven't seen it happen. If she cannot make it work in one state, how much better will she do with a whole country? Ok, so that part wasn't very funny...but it wasn't funny for all the people that lost their jobs, either.

Like I said, this election could force me to choose against my party, Republican, or my gender, Female. I am not one of those die-hards that vote my party no matter who the candidate, however John Kerry was the reason I made sure my voter status was secure. I vote for the lesser of evils as I believe that ALL politicians on every level lie to get into office then go about their own agendas regardless of what they promised. An agenda like a bid for the White House. Hmmm. Sounds familiar. Lying seems to be synonymous with "Clinton" these days as even former supporters are skeptical. To paraphrase David Geffen, who helped raise millions of dollars for Bill Clinton's campaign, lying comes so easily for them; they don't even know they are doing it. Ouch. If that is what her friends are saying about her, I don't even need to watch Fox News.

This next point may seem to some a bit petty, but hey I am going to throw it out there. If Katie Couric got so much flack for being the first solo news anchor, do you really think that we are ready for a woman President? Think about it. Her outfits were criticized, her interview style came under fire, and you could almost hear the chants to bring Dan Rather back. I just do not think that America will elect and take seriously, a female President--yet. At least not Hillary. She's too unemotional and even when she is smiling, I do not get that she is really smiling. I get the feeling that children and animals run the other way from her--which may explain how Buddy got hit by a car...Anyway, there is something phony about her that makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I am all for a woman President, just not this woman. Not even if she appears on the Ellen Degeneres Show and makes an attempt at being human.

To be fair, I haven't seen any Republican contenders that do it for me either, but I don't know much about any of them. Other than that one is named Mitt and the other Brownback...so much for "curb appeal." Maybe they are wisely sitting back and letting Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton smear each other into the ground before making their presence known. And let's face it, the Dems are doing so much mud-slinging at each other right now that pretty soon even Michael Moore is going to vote Republican. Okay, maybe not. Right now Obama is looking like the lesser of the two Democratic Party evils, and as long as he doesn't try to take my gun, he'll have my vote.
