Election 2008--The Best One Yet

Why You Should Pay Attention to Next Year's Election

Cathy Hayes
Next year promises to be a fun one for politicians, campaigners, activists, and the general public!

As a nation have we ever had so much fun preparing for an election? I think not! Remember the year before the last election? Personally I'm not sure how this election could get more interesting. If you haven't started paying attention to the election campaign, start now! You're missing out on a lot. Did you see the Obama girl vs. Giuliani girl video on Youtube?

According to the MSNBC election rankings, if the elections were held today, it would be Clinton vs. Giuliani. Now wouldn't that be a win-win situation for New York? Maybe they would move the capital to New York? On the Democratic side, Hilary Clinton is doing well! She's the top candidate and growing stronger everyday. Behind her, in second place, is Barack Obama. He is my favorite politician because he seems to be actively trying to gather the "young" vote. Have you seen his Facebook application? Almost everyone I know has it on their profile. Where's Hilary's Facebook application? She's not getting my vote until she proves to me that she can maintain at least one Facebook profile and starts her own group. If homecoming candidates can campaign on Facebook, so can presidential hopefuls. In third place, is John Edwards. The prettiest candidate you have never seen. Any man that can spend upwards of $300 to get his hair done is definitely going to be good for America. Can't you just see him solving our problems while getting a mani-pedi?

The other five democratic candidates are all very interesting, but we'll talk about them when they get a bit higher in the rankings.

On the Republican side, Rudy Giuliani is also kicking butt! He's been the top candidate since he announced his bid. I can just see the makeover that will occur in Brooklyn if he wins! The rest of the boroughs will never live it down. In second place for the Republicans is Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts. He's running for President, and has a lot of his own money in the campaign. There isn't really much else to say about him, except that apparently other people know who he is. In third place, is Fred Thompson. The actor from Law and Order. You can catch him weeknights on TNT. Before you think he has no experience politically, he was actually a Tennessee state senator for nine years, then he starred in Law and Order for another five years before leaving the show this May to begin running for President. As for the other seven republican candidates, there is really not much to say. The Republicans, to me, are much less fun to discuss. Well all except for Rudy.

I will say that the most fun part of this election has been the debates. Perhaps I was too young to pay attention last time, but I have a feeling there were not as many debates in 2003 as there now, in 2007. It is amazing the different ways these candidates can find to say the exact same thing. I can't wait for next year.

First, welcome to the political process..and yes, it will be interesting. The best thing is to stay involved, to learn more, and - most importantly...don't buy into the right wing propaganda!
