Election Debate Rages On: Who Would Do the LEAST Damage, Obama or McCain? PART II
Why I Think an Obama Presidency is Best for Republicans in the Long Run
The Conservative argument over this issue takes two parallel roads - would Conservatism and the nation be better off, as well as LEAST damaged, by a McCain or an Obama Presidency. If McCain won but Democrats held Congress, would McCain be successful? On the other hand, if Dems hold Congress and the White House, how can anything going wrong be the fault of Conservative politics? These are the pertinent aspects and questions to the debate.
Conservatives often argue that at least McCain would have not been this potentially damaging to our Republic. And I agree, but that still leaves a Republican in charge, and when that happens all we get is Democrat sniping at every move. A McCain Presidency would have allowed the Democrats even more fodder for defaming Conservatism, thus DELAYING the inevitable backlash.
Constant Progressive sniping and thwarting lent greatly to the backlash. The only way to end it was to pull the trigger and let them run the deal. At least then they cannot FACTUALLY hold Conservatives responsible.
The Left and their media pals spent 8 full years attacking everything from 9/11 to the way Bush walks. A McCain Presidency would have given them at least four more years of incessant attacks against McCain, Republicans and Conservatism in general.
My position is this: The only way to end the Leftist sniping and their non-stop efforts to thwart Conservatism was to let them run the whole shebang for a while. As long as Republicans wield ANY POWER whatsoever the Left can defame and destroy us for it. The ONLY way to end their crappola was for Republicans to have no power whatsoever.
As we hear today even though Republicans cannot cause anything to happen or to NOT happen, in terms of policy and law, the Left still scream "it's Republicans and Conservatives who are gumming up the works and preventing Obama from doing his glorious saving of this most evil nation, blah, blah, blah." So if they make these BS claims when Conservatives can't even order a pizza without the Lefty permission, what would they have said if McCain were President? Let your imagination run with it - Hell, that's how Progressives do it!
The concern AGAINST a McCain Presidency is that Lefties would have still held reasonably large Congressional majorities. As such the Leftist Congress could nix anything and everything McCain tried to do. If such an event had occurred, how would that have played out for FUTURE Republican political success?
If McCain had the White House and a Leftist Congress wanted to thwart him they would have easily been able to do so. If McCain DID NOT want something the Leftist Congress did, they could FORCE him to do their bidding. And who would get the blame for any failure in a McCain Presidency? Even if Congress were like it is today - heavy Leftist majorities - the party of the President is the one that gets blamed for any and all failings - even when those failings are entirely the result of Leftist Congressional majorities.
No matter how many times Bush and Republicans tried to reign in Fannie & Freddie, Democrats in Congress thwarted them EVERY SINGLE TIME! But who got the blame? Bush! All of Congress voted on the Patriot Act, but who got the blame? Bush. All of Congress voted on going into Iraq. Who got the blame? Bush! Is a pattern emerging here folks?
Realities dictate that the party holding the White House wears the blame REGARDLESS of the factual events and Congressional machinations in any failure for which President's wear blame. It's just how ignorant and largely disinterested Americans manifest their political naivete - they blame the Captain of the ship even when it was the lowliest seaman in the bottom of the ship that pulled the damned drain plug, right? This reality was ONE of the prime reasons I DID NOT WANT McCain to win, although I did vote for him.
If McCain could have been blamed for every ill, wouldn't that eventually lead to the inevitable political backlash, as the Obama election clearly demonstrates was the case? Eventually every pendulum swings back. Better to let the children be in charge right now. They will screw it up, right? I mean c'mon here. Any idiot with eyes or ears knows the Democrats and Obama are in huge trouble - bigger trouble for their political aspirations then at any time in the last number of decades.
The only counter to the above argument is that Conservatives fear Obama and his radicalism. Our concerns rest over whether or not he can so harm the nation with his Marxist nonsense before we can destroy his huge Congressional majorities. Clearly what we see right now is the 100% proof of my assertions.
Can Obama actually achieve the destruction of traditional America that his Marxist ideology demands? It looked bad for my nation for a while, but I think the Leftists have ruined it for themselves, as I always knew they would. That was the entire basis for my acceptance of the Obamanation. I knew if given large majorities these usurpers, dedicated ideological Marxists and Progressives I mean, would way over reach, and indeed they have done so.
How's it working out for them? On the eve of enjoying their largest Congressional majorities in decades they have shot themselves square in the foot and are aiming the barrel of the gun directly at their uber-brain laden skulls - numskulls at that, so likely a clean shot through their frontal lobes will not harm them at all - Hell, they likely won't even notice! Hubris and supreme arrogance tends to have that effect, no?
In my opinion a McCain Presidency would have prolonged the misery, lying, prevaricating and blaming someone else for the failure of Progressive political and social wishes. At least now, the Obama and Progressive damage notwithstanding, they CANNOT hold Conservatism responsible for any failure.
Oh sure, they scream Republicans and rich special interests are stirring up folks to be mobs and that nonsense. This just proves when it comes to intellectual honesty the Progressives are lacking. The disagreement with Progressive agenda is entirely grassroots. The people, usually quiet and acquiescent, are now supremely pissed. And the targets of their anger? PROGRESSIVES!
See folks, I was right all along. I always argued that to end the misery of the last 8 years we needed to let the petulant kids get in control. Once they did so they would act EXACTLY as I predicted they would - petulant, demanding, dishonest, prevaricating, arrogant, over reaching and just outright damned dangerous to our nation's traditions and long term survivability.
As proof of my contention of their piss poor stewardship and their INTENTIONS to adhere to installing their extreme Leftist ideology, consider this. What sane entity is flat broke, has huge and unsustainable debt yet STILL borrows more money to GET WHAT THEY WANT??? Sure, health care ain't perfect, but is now the time to try to fix it by spending more money then this nation has ever spent?
In case some forget, the FIRST YEAR Obama budget has a ONE YEAR deficit of $1.8 TRILLION DOLLARS! This is more then ALL EIGHT BUSH YEARS COMBINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that is WITHOUT Obamacare being enacted. That will cause us to go ANOTHER 10 or so TRILLION DOLLARS into debt between now and 2019, and that is for Obamacare ALONE!. Add in deficits similar to Obama's first budget and that 10 Trillion dollar number could swell to 20 or 30 TRILLION MORE in debt!
So, when you're broke, is that really the time to buy that Mercedes, build the McMansion and try to fundamentally change the entire underpinnings of one's life? And if it's a real bad idea for one individual to do this, isn't it exponentially worse if it is done to the most successful nation in world history, and against the wishes of the vast majority as well?
Or in the case of the facts and the real events as they unfold, when the nation is broke, more in debt then ever and in the middle of a severe economic downturn, is that really the BEST time to do this crap? NOT if one wants to preserve the nation and its solvency. BUT it does make great sense if one's goal is to destroy the traditional in order to replace it with their desired Progressive stupidity.
Remember, "It is important to so exacerbate the miseries of the common man to incite them to rebel!" What better way then to destroy the fundamental underpinnings of a society, and blame the other guys for causing it? Ya know, like how Hitler blamed the Jews for the world's ills?
Folks, we needed Obama and the minions to be in charge. Their immature and petulant stewardship will be their undoing. We needed this to happen. The nation could tolerate little more of their incessant sniping. The only way to end the insanity so we can get back to responsible leadership was to let the fat kids have the keys to the candy store.
Clearly based on the mess the fatso's have created thus far, can any NON-Progressive disagree - FACTUALLY, I mean? Oh sure, they can disagree philosophically and ideologically 'til Hell freezes over, but they haven's a FACTUAL leg - or fact for that matter - to stand on. Not one!

Post a CommentI'm the quiet one. Nice article!
Good article. Being an Independent Libertarian and knowing that Texas would likely go for McCain, I voted a Libertarian ticket. However, I felt Obama probably was what the nation needed at this time, but wasn't sure why. Now I know! Thanks, Mike. Hopefully, America will be able to recover from the effects of Obama and Congress' leadership. If I remember my American History instructor correctly, the Constitution contains only 300 words concerning the power of the President. Over the years, that limited power has been allowed to expand to a point that it is dangerous to America's survival.
I agree wholeheartedly! I was never a huge McCain fan because I never thought he was conservative enough, but he is a true patriot. But, after I pulled myself out of the abyss of the election resulting in Obamanation, I really did believe that in the long run, this would be a good thing for the republicans. So far, so good...let's hope the momentum keeps building in our favor!
I like your point about how the Dems have nobody to blame but themselves, since they hold majorities everywhere currently. Likewise, their 'budgeting' philosophy of tax, borrow, and spend is what will prove to be our downfall. And more money has been given to huge banks and corporations (read: 'bailouts') under Obama lately than his predecessors (under the myth that they're 'too big to fail'). Funny how Obama gets a pass on so many of the things that Bush was repeatedly crucified for!
The damage Obama is doing will be felt long after he is gone...a deciding SCOTUS ruling from a radical he appointed years to come, a Marxist policy he allowed to grow into our fabric...a damaging healthcare policy that won't adversely affect my kids until 50-years down the pike...it will take men of McCain's caliber, a Patriot that would put country first, to undo the damage of a subversive. McCain's weak GOP creds is not as damaging as a left wing or right wing radical that fosters anti-American designs.
So it's the old adage, give 'em enough rope. I agree.
I completely understand your angle here and agree in theory...and it is what gives me hope of a succesful recovery from the Obama presidency..but the gravity of the power any POTUS has is not as benign as negative public scorn translating into GOP votes the next round.
Very well put Charlotte.
Interesting take on the situation. I really appreciate your unique analysis. McCain was a poor choice at the time but I'm not familiar enough with the Republican party to say who might have worked better, if anyone. I think Americans wanted a change, I'm just not sure the change that actually happened was what they were expecting. I guess that is a matter for history.
