The album was produced by Zach Shipps and will be released on Metropolis Records on September 28, 2010.
"There are only two things you can expect every September: a new SAW movie... and a new album from Electric Six." shares Electric Six's Dick Valentine.
The Detroit group is known for it's eclectic brand of rock music that combines everything from disco to punk to new wave and metal.
The band is also known for it's humor as they gained recognition in 2003 for singles like "Danger! High Voltage" and "Gay Bar".
Zodiac continues this tradition while bringing something new to the table.
Without losing any of its trademark sardonic sense of humor and funk/dance rock core, Zodiac is an album whose cohesion is evident from the first listen and one of which the band is especially proud.
"Creating this album was a little different in that we consciously tried to go for the 'Neil Diamond' approach on a couple of the songs," Valentine explains, "Especially "Table and Chairs" and "I Am a Song". "I think the rest of the album didn't really veer from the methodology we have been using lately to make albums."
Tracks like the funk-heavy "American Cheese", the herky jerky dance rock of "Jam It In the Hole", and the loungy acoustic pop of "Table and Chairs", Zodiac, like its astrological namesake, appropriately contains twelve songs, each with personality traits all its own.
Also included on the album is "Rubberband Man, " their first cover since 2005's remake of Queen's "Radio Gaga". The song was originally recorded by legendary R&B band (and fellow Detroit natives) The Spinners.
Starting tonight, Electric Six will begin their "The Rent Is Too Damn High" tour at the Intersection in Grand Rapids.
The tour will be making a stop in Ferndale on Saturday to play at the DIY Street Fair on Woodward Avenue at 10 p.m.. The band will be performing on the Metro Times Stage.
The DIY Street Fair is an annual free 2-day, 3-night event which celebrates do-it-yourself creative, innovative and entrepreneurial endeavors occurring throughout Detroit and its surrounding communities.
Electric Six is Dick Valentine (vocals), The Colonel (guitar), Johnny Na$hinal (guitar), Smorgasbord (bass), Tait Nucleus? (synths) and Percussion World (drums).
