Electric Toothbrush Review: The Crest Spin-Brush Pro

Chris Tidwell
For many years I have used a manual toothbrush, but recently a wave of new electric toothbrushes had hit the market so I decided to trade my good ol' toothbrush for a new electric one and decided to go with a Crest SpinBrush Pro. Crest is a toothpaste company I have known and trusted for many years and their products have always served me well, that is until now. There are no really "good" qualities about the SpinBrush Pro. The toothbrush is very uncomfortable, lacks cleaning power and is an all around pain to use.

The Crest SpinBrush Pro is probably the most uncomfortable toothbrush I have ever had the displeasure to use. I understand that the brush is electric so you have to have a place for the batteries to go, but the toothbrush is oversized, and lacks any kind of comfort grip in the handle.

Because of this bulky design it seems very hard to reach around and clean your teeth properly, which really defeats the purpose of going through the trouble of brushing your teeth in the first place. At the very least I would have expected some kind of comfortable grip from the Crest SpinBrush Pro, but that's just not the case.

The most important aspect of a toothbrush is of course its cleaning power and in this area the Crest SpinBrush Pro lacks severely. You can show me all the clinical studies that you want on this device, but I think the fifth dentist that did not recommend the Crest SpinBrush Pro really got it right, or perhaps he just really cares about his patience. The brush has no power to it and misses spots of plaque and food particles that a manual toothbrush would have easily taken care of.

I knew that the brush was not working even after first time I used it because my mouth just did not "feel" clean, like when I used a manual toothbrush. Within weeks of using the Crest SpinBrush Pro I developed two cavities in my back teeth, which I would attribute to the lack of cleaning power the Crest SpinBrush Pro has.

If you ever have to disassemble the Crest SpinBrush Pro and replace either the batteries or the brush head, which you eventually will, I wish you the best of luck, because it's no easy task. The instructions clearly state how to change both the brush head and batteries, but both are not easily replaced, no matter how simple the directions are. You'll be sitting there saying, "maybe I should try twisting this way, or maybe I should apply pressure here" because as easy as it should be nothing with the Crest SpinBrush Pro is as it appears.

The Crest SpinBrush Pro is by far the worst toothbrush I have ever used. It lacks any kind of comfort, has no cleaning power, and it's almost impossible to change out the head and batteries unless your Superman. I would strongly discourage anyone from running out and getting a Crest SpinBrush Pro, unless you like dirty dingy teeth and leftover food from yesterday in your mouth. The best thing I can say for the Crest SpinBrush Pro would be that the batteries last a long time.... But that's it, the toothbrush's only redeeming quality is the battery life, so let that speak for itself.
