E.L.F. Earth and Water Mascara Duo Review

A Handy 2 in 1 Product

Nowadays it seems as though a dollar doesn't go as far as it use to. Even though we're in a recession it looks as though the costs of clothing, food and even makeup has gone up. How that makes sense is beyond my understanding. I remember when I could get a good mascara at the drugstore for around $3, now it seems as though most brands, even the drug store ones, are creeping closer towards the $10 mark. As a way to revamp my lifestyle in order to survive the horrible economy I've gone searching for more affordable, but good, makeup. I came across E.L.F. cosmetics about a year ago while watching makeup tutorials on Youtube.com. I've been a fan ever since and I've pretty much tried just about everything they have, one of which was their Earth and Water mascara duo.

The first thing I was very pleasantly surprised about was the fact that I could actually get a tube of mascara for just a dollar, yes, one dollar. Besides being insanely affordable I also liked that this mascara is cruelty-free because e.l.f. doesn't test any of their products on animals. I have a soft spot for cosmetics that are guilt free. This mascara comes in two colors black and brown. I like that for one dollar I'm essentially getting two mascaras, a regular version and a waterproof one, hence the name. This mascara is great for achieving natural looking lashes that's long lasting and won't smudge or smear, at least it didn't for me. I also liked that it came in a slender tube. As nice as some of the other mascaras are I can live without the flashy, bulky packaging.

Now for the cons. There isn't a lot that I have to complain about e.l.f.'s Earth and Water duo mascara because for the price it's a very good one. Still, it's not without faults. My biggest complaint is that many of e.l.f.'s products are hard to find in stores, this mascara being one of them. I also wished that there was a formula that helped with volume and lengthening as well, this mascara doesn't do any of that. The last thing is that it flakes a bit. The flaking isn't as bad as say Cover Girl's Eye Lights mascara but it does have some flaking which can be a huge concern for contact lens wearer.

All in all I thought e.l.f's Earth and Water duo mascara is a good every day mascara because it's two product in one, and small enough to be carried around in even the thinnest clutch. I would consider buying it again if they can improve on the formula to prevent flaking. I would not recommend it for any contact lens wearer though.
