E.L.F Nail Polish: A Product Review

Alexis Valentine
E.L.F cosmetics, short for Eyes Lips Face, is a makeup brand that is known for their super affordable products. I've been a fan of E.L.F cosmetics since the moment I first tried their products, and not just because of the price but because of the quality too. E.L.F's products are so affordable because they rely on their customers' feedback and word-of-mouth instead of flashy packaging and expensive marketing and advertising. They have everything from the usual makeup products to body care products and nail products. I recently ordered eight of their nail polishes to try out.

About

E.L.F's nail polishes currently comes in 29 colors to choose from. The color range is anywhere from clear to black, and comes in both matte and shimmery colors. All of E.L.F's nail polishes costs only a dollar each. E.L.F's nail polish is specially formulated to lock the color and keep it from chipping as well as giving it high shine. These nail polishes are also formulated to dry quickly, and made with nutrients, infused with Vitamin E for a natural shine and stronger, healthier nails. E.L.F's nail polish, like all of their products, are cruelty-free which means it wasn't tested on animals. Their nail polishes are also free of Toluene, Formaldehyde and Dibutyle Phthalate. Formaldehyde is a chemical use to embalm dead bodies, while Toluene is a water-soluble liquid that smells like paint thinner and is sometimes used as an inhalant drug, one that can cause severe neurological damage.

My Experience
Pros

The first thing I like about E.L.F's nail polish is that it's cruelty-free. I'm a big supporter of not testing on animals when it comes to cosmetics. I also like that it's free of Toluene; I've never been into nail polish much for that main reason. I can't stand the smell and I'm slightly paranoid when it comes to the health of my mind. I've been using E.L.F's nail polish for over a week now and I'm loving it. The first color I tried out was their black and that color lasted for five days with a topcoat before it started chipping. To me that's a pretty normal length of time, and for a one dollar product that's not bad at all. I like that it doesn't clump or streak when I apply it and it's buildable. So if I want the color to show up darker I only need to apply another coat of nail polish. It really does dry as quickly as it claims and the colors truly are shiny, whether they're matte or shimmery.

Cons

There were a few things that I thought E.L.F could improve on with their nail polishes. The first thing is that the coral color seems to be the only color out of the eight that I got that clumped and streaked. I've read some reviews and many customers have mentioned the same thing about this particular color. I'm not sure what it is that's different but it definitely doesn't work like the other colors, except that it dries fast. It's a pity because it's a very pretty coral color. My other issue with E.L.F's nail polish is that like most of their products it's hard to find in stores so I had to order it off of their website. I don't mind ordering off the internet except that I don't enjoy the wait and the shipping price for E.L.F is almost $7.

Verdict

I think E.L.F's nail polish is a good quality nail polish for the price, and it'll be hard to find another nail polish that works as well as E.L.F's for a dollar or less. It's not the best nail polish out there but I consider it the best for the price.

Where you refer to "matte" colours, I think you mean cremes. Matte actually refers to polishes with no shine; creme is polishes without shimmer or frost.
