After week 5 of the NFL season the Giants are 4-0 and playing like a cohesive unit on offense. Eli Manning has taken control of the team and the offense is now winning games for the Giants. While Eli is not putting up gaudy numbers he has been consistent and effective. Just look at his quarterback rating, he is currently 5th in the league. Since quarterback ratings take everything into account one might think Eli is being discussed as one of the top quarterbacks in the league, but rarely do you ever hear his name mentioned.
This is Eli's 5th season with the Giants and it is easy to see his progression. The last few seasons Eli has had a quarterback rating in the 70's, this season his rating is just shy of 100. In last years super bowl we also got to see what Eli is like under the most extreme pressure. I truly believe winning the Super Bowl will help propel Eli to the next level. His confidence I up, his decision-making has been fantastic, and the team is now looking at him as their leader.
In the past few season its seems Eli was in the news more when he was performing poorly. Now that he has the team rolling and he is playing like a superstar quarterback you rarely hear his name mentioned. I don't doubt Eli likes it that way, as his has a very laid back personality and is not an attention seeker, but he should start getting his fair share of the accolades. Even though the media doesn't seem to paying enough attention to Eli I think everyone else should because we are watching a great quarterback blossom in to his own right before our eyes.
The Giants have found their quarterback of the present and the future. Manning is now playing like a number 1 overall pick and the doubters have been silenced. It is often said that quarterback is the most important position in the NFL and the Giants now have a true field general. I am not sure if Eli will ever put up numbers like his brother Peyton has, but he has already tied him in championships and that's what's important to Giants fans. When the game is on the line I think the Giants and their fans are now completely confident with who is under center.
