Eliminating Your Credit Card Debt
Taking the First Few Steps Toward Eliminating Your Credit Card Debt
1) Take Control of the Urge to Spend: The first thing anyone has to do is to control their personal expenses or expenditures. What we're really talking about here is controlling your habit of using your credit card to make purchases or pay for expenses. You have to realize that the main reason why you got yourself into credit card debt is because of your uncontrollable urge to pay for expenditures using your credit card. If you really are serious about getting rid of your credit card debt, this is one of the most important things that will help in debt elimination by preventing your accumulation of additional debt.
2) Taking Control of Your Expenditures:
a) You really have to try and stay away from any attractive offers that are offered by the various different shops and stores. Never ever buy anything that you don't really need. You have to consider the fact that you are looking to eliminate credit card debt, not adding to it.
b) Just leave your credit cards at home, and only if you really need something, should you fetch your credit card from your house. This should stop you from falling for any hard to resist sales or offers (that probably are there all the year round anyways). This technique works on the basis that "preventing it from happening is better than having to find a cure". This should help prevent any unplanned and unneeded expenses from happening.
c) Always try and prepare a monthly budget and do your absolute best to stick to it. This itself is a very important debt elimination method. Your budget will create the foundation of your debt elimination plan. If after, you find yourself moving away from your budget, your credit card debt elimination plan will go for a hurl.
3) Going for Debt Consolidation: Debt consolidation or otherwise known as moving away from high APR credit cards to a low APR credit card is usually the first step to credit card debt elimination. The steps you need to go through:
a) Never jump for the first offer you come across. You have to do research and analyze all the different offers and choose one that best suits your needs. This should be another important step on your debt elimination plan. You have to consider the initial APR, period and the standard APR. Always read the writing in fine print on the balance transfer offer and check the terms and conditions on these. These might affect your overall credit card debt elimination plan.
b) Compare and analyze all the other benefits such as rebates and reward points before you even decide to go for one of the offers.
Credit card debt elimination can be real tough, but it really is all about planning ahead and having the discipline and persistence. Therefore go out and make your debt elimination plan and continue to persist with it until you've reduced all your debt!
