Whether you are going on a date, to a friend's party, or just simply going to the theater, you can always use these tips for a more natural powder foundation appeal.
Wet it:
Get a soft Kleenex and damp it with warm water. Squeeze the Kleenex as dry as you can but make sure it is still damp. With a light hand - gently wipe the Kleenex over your face. The dampness will proceed to lift extra makeup from your face that is not needed. The dust-like residue on your face is makeup that is not needed.
TIP: Do this technique in good lighting so you can see your face extremely well. Completing this technique in dim lighting could cause you to miss areas and not see the dust-like powder on your face.
Moisturize:
You may have heard this from numerous individuals in your life time, but have not got around to actually doing it. Well, what are you waiting for! Moisturizing your face before makeup application will hydrate your skin, sooth dry skin, and help set fine wrinkles at ease. Apply a very light moisturizer to your entire face and blend it in well. Allow your face time to dry before applying your foundation.
TIP: If you do not have a light moisturizer at hand, you can use honey as a moisturizer. Honey will do everything a moisturizer will do: hydrate skin, smooth fine wrinkles, and saturate dry skin areas on your face so you can sop it off.
Exfoliate:
Some reasons we get that powder residue on our face is because we have dead skin bunching up on our face. While we may not be able to see the skin, it is still there. Get a very light exfoliater and cleanse your face with it.
TIP: For best results - exfoliate, moisturize, tone, and then apply your foundation. This will ensure your face is free of most dead skin and hydrated.
Prime:
Some people don't get what a foundation primer is. A lot of people think a primer is simply another moisturizer. Well, they are only half right. Primer is a makeup/moisturizer. A lot of primers offer pore reduction as well. Applying a primer to your face before makeup application will give you a longer makeup application life and much smoother appearance and touch.
TIP: For a more even application of primer, apply a little primer to a Kleenex and wipe over your entire face or problem areas. After you have done this, you can use your fingers to blend in fully. If you are using a spray-on foundation, lightly spray unto your face and then blend with a powder brush.
In the end, you must also make sure the foundation you are using is a good foundation. If you get a poor quality foundation, you will always get poor results. Remember - light foundation is best. If you get a heavy coverage foundation, the odds are it will look fake. If you get a light coverage foundation, you can add to it.
