Elin Nordegren Vs Angelina Jolie: Which Woman is Financially Smarter? Jolie Without a Doubt and Here's Why

Angelina Jolie and Elin Nordegren - the Difference Between a Financially Smart Woman and One Who is Not

Cassandra James
According to Popeater's celebrity gossip site, last week's People magazine featuring an Elin Nordegren cover story about her divorce from Tiger Woods was second-best selling issue behind their issue with the first photographs of Angelina Jolie's new twins. Nordegren's cover story sold 2 million copies, Jolie's 2.5 million. But what this news goes to show is not that Angelina Jolie still sells more covers than any other woman in the world (which she does), but that she's also smarter than most women out there. In fact, Angelina Jolie was smart in her financial dealings with People magazine. Elin Nordegren was not.

According to several sources, Angelina Jolie asked for and was paid $12 million for exclusive photos of her new twins. Elin Nordegren gave her People magazine interview on her divorce from Tiger Woods for free. Going to show, once and for all, why Angelina Jolie is financially smarter than just about any woman in the public eye. It also shows Jolie is more concerned with humanitarian issues and the problems of other people than someone like Elin Nordegren who, disappointingly, in this People magazine interview cared about nothing but getting "her message" out. And here's why.

When the media frenzy over Angelina Jolie's new twins hit, both Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt knew the person who was able to get the first photographs of the couple's twins would make a fortune. So, rather than let a member of the paparazzi make millions from one photograph, Jolie made a deal with People magazine to be the exclusive news outlet for the first photographs of the twins.

In exchange, People magazine paid Jolie and Pitt $12 million. That $12 million was then donated by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to humanitarian charities like Doctors Without Borders (a group of volunteer doctors who give free medical care in third world countries and in war-stricken areas), Global Action on Children (a United Nations' childrens charity) and to earthquake victims in Pakistan and Haiti. A win-win situation for both Jolie and Pitt and millions of suffering children all over the world.

Elin Nordegren, on the other hand, seemingly desperate to get her story out gave her interview to People magazine for free. She asked for no fee and no agreement for a later fee, which is more telling about how naive and financially ignorant she is than about her 'morals'.

While Angelina Jolie made sure People didn't walk away with astronomical profits, Elin Nordegren handed People one of their largest profitable magazine covers ever. In fact, not only did People magazine make an unbelievable profit on the Nordegren cover issue, they even raised the price of the magazine to make even more money.

Elin Nordegren has said many times she's an advocate for children and wants to be a child psychologist. It's a pity she didn't think about that before making a corporation. Time Warner Inc.who are the owner's of People magazine, even richer. With Time Warner's revenues already over $1.5 billion a year for People magazine, it would have been nice if Elin Nordegren had struck a deal to make sure some of that money went to children's charities. Just like Angelina Jolie was smart enough to do.

Like I said, Angelina Jolie is fiscally smart, Elin Nordegren is not. Let's hope Nordegren gets better.

RE, yes, OF the $12 million. However, as she didn't GET the money, her tax write-off was zero.(Believe me, I was a professional fundraiser for charities for 15 years - I know how this works).

    Got it now...

Getting and directly giving away $12 millions will give you a tax reduction of $4.2 million (assuming max tax) - nice!

And btw, ALL the $12 mill has now been donated to charities thru their foundation. They also put around $20 million of their own money into their foundation to start it.This is why both Jolie and Pitt are known as two of the biggest donators to charity in the world, and idiots like Sandy say she's greedy, LOL.

  • Cassandra James 9/1/2010

RL, yes they donated the money to their foundation and then the money was given to charities through that. If they hadn't done it that way, they would have had to pay taxes on the $12 million, which would have reduced it to about $8 million.

The $12 million went to their foundation "Jolie-Pitt Foundation"
    http://www.looktothestars.org/news/3351-giving-back-fund-releases-2009s-top-celebrity-givers
and from there they will support projects over time - 2008 they gave away $6.4 million

Yea, Elin & Tiger missed another opportunity earlier publishing photos of their newborn on web...

BTW I can not find Jolie-Pitt as donors to Doctors Without Borders for 2008 (they are on the list for 2006)

To Sandy, I'm guessing you can't read??? :) She DONATED all $12 million to charity. Hardly greedy. Honestly, some people really are clueless.
