Elisabeth Hasselbeck Apologizes to Dancing with the Stars Erin Andrews for Unkind Comment About Stalker (Link to Video)

Joyce Carole
The View's token conservative tearfully apologized to ESPN Newscaster and Dancing with the Stars Contestant, Erin Andrews for her insensitive comment regarding Andrew's stalker.

What Did Elisabeth Hasselbeck Say?

According to news reports, Hasselbeck was quoted as saying, "In light of what happened... and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room... I mean, in some way if I (was) him," Hasselbeck said, "I would be like, Man! I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this (a little bit less) without the prison time!" Hasselbeck's comment, which more than bordered on the age old "she was asking for it" had Andrews in tears. Hasselbeck's comment was in reference to Andrew's being scantily clad during her Dancing with the Stars performances.

How Did Erin Andrews React to Elisabeth Hasselbeck's Comment

According to Access Hollywood, Erin Andrews cried following Hasselbeck's comment. One news account states that Andrews called Hasselbeck's comment a "slap in the face to all victims of stalkers". The man, who stalked Andrews, is currently serving time in prison.

(continued from before) ...it's about having respect for yourself, and deMANDing everyone around you to respect you as well. As for what Elisabeth said, it was without consideration for your feelings, yes, but it was TRUTH. Please leave aside the sting of it and consider what she was saying.

In follow up to my previous comment. It's easy to detach your feelings from someone you don't know, just as a good majority of people are doing to Elisabeth, and as she did in her comment, and as I did in my first reactions. But Erin, love, I want you to know I do care, just as I'm sure Elisabeth does. I AM sorry you were frightened and humiliated by that man. But if you stick your hand in front of a vicious dog, you can't get upset if he bites you. The dog should be taken to the pound, the man taken to jail, and you're still left with the wounds that need cared for, but at the same time, there's a life lesson to be learned. You are a beautiful woman. And you can dress and dance beautiful without making it seem like you will take any man who walks in the door. It's not about being "comfortable" with your sexuality, it's about having respect for yourself, and deMANDing everyone around you to respect you as well. As for what Elisabeth said, it was without consideration for your feelings,

Elisabeth didn't need to appologize for anything. She didn't say anything wrong. She started her statement by saying the guy was inexcusable, and finished it by saying he could have seen that on TV without going to jail. She's right. Everyone is getting all upset about her being "insensitive", but no one's accusing her of being a liar.

Great write up. Most people on shows like The View seem like they couldn't care less if they say something that hurts someone as long as it brings in ratings and gets them more screen time. So it was nice to see Hasselbeck's response and apology. And as for one of the comments below, I saw the first clip and didn't think she ignored Joy at all, she got up to show what she was wearing in response to the question.

While I am not a fan of Hasselbeck, I think her original comment was something that came out wrong and that she never meant to make light of Andrews stalker situation. Her apology certainly seemed heartfelt.

Oh, and Joyce, great article and presentation of the facts!

We all make mistakes. No one is perfect. But we all don't apologize and try to right the wrong when we do. Elisabeth is one of the few who will. Bad action but a good reversal.

Will someone please find a cure for Elizabeth's diarrahea of the mouth please? She totally ignored Joy Behar's question when asked if Erin had less clothes on that Elizabeth did that day. She loves the sound of her own voice. Get rid of her.

An apology was definitely in order!

Personally, I don't care for Hasselbeck, I'm glad she apologized. BUT, she shouldn't have said it in the first place.
