Elizabeth Edwards Dies at 61

Elizabeth Edwards' death shocks and saddens her many fans. The wife of John Edwards, who was separated from him and was seeking divorce, is dead at 61, as reported at People. Edwards died at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Elizabeth Edwards' death comes after a life of happiness, ending with troubles. In addition to losing a son in 1996, she was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and was very public about the disease. We knew she was sick, and later we knew that the prognosis for her to live a long life was slim. Edwards was open about it. She let us know that doctors were doing all that they could, but that her disease was likely terminal.

She stood by John Edwards' side when Edwards was busy trying to run for President of the United States. We saw them as a close couple and we were shocked when we discovered that Edwards was cheating on Elizabeth with Rielle Hunter, a photographer for his campaign. By this time, John Edwards had dropped out of the race for President of the United States.

If Barack Obama had chosen John Edwards as his Vice Presidential running mate, would Edwards have accepted? That question became moot when Edwards' affair was exposed by "The National Enquirer." When Edwards denied that Hunter's baby was his, later admitting it, it made him look even worse.

So, Rielle Hunter was deemed a homewrecker, John Edwards a jerk and Elizabeth Edwards a heroine for putting up with so much in her life. On Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, doctors announced that nothing more could be done for Elizabeth Edwards and that she had only months to live. Earlier in the day, on December 7, 2010, newscasters talked about Elizabeth and let us know that John was at her bedside. Little did we know that months to live was really only hours to live.

Great article Jolie! Very sad news. Elizabeth had to endure so much pain towards the end of her life. I am glad she will be able to be with her son again though =0)

@Sandra, I amended the article to include mention of Wade, but again, I believe John and Elizabeth worked to move on to give their later children a happy life. Of course, then John goes and has an affair and then the cancer...

Sandra, Yes, that's true, but she and John had tried to move on. She has other children that she and John worked to be strong for.

Well she knew. That is appearant from her message she posted last night on facebook. Also she didn't had a life of happiness ending up in tragedy. Her son died way before the presidential run and the affair.
