Elizabeth Edwards Loses Battle with Cancer

Pat Anthony
The death of Elizabeth Edwards at the age of 61 on December 7th, 2010 was not a surprise to many who were following her battle with cancer. Ms. Edwards let the public be very aware that cancer would probably take her life.

Elizabeth Edwards was an attorney who chose to devote most of her adult life to her children. Having 4 children with John Edwards, Elizabeth was reported to be very involved with her family.

Born Mary Elizabeth Anania, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Anania and Vincent Anania. Her early years were spent traveling because her father was in the United States Navy. Edwards had two books published, with the first being about the death of her son, Wade, who was killed in a car accident when he was 16.

Elizabeth Edwards had a second book published which dealt with her cancer, and her relationship with John Edwards. While many comments were made in tabloids and popular magazines about how Elizabeth Edwards should handle her failing marriage, it eventually seemed to be taken out of her hands.

Many may not realize that Elizabeth Edwards gave birth to her last child, Jack, when she was 50 years old. Not only famous women have children when they are older, but of course they make the headlines when they do.

Elizabeth Edwards has 3 surviving children, including Cate Edwards, 28, who spoke at the funeral for Elizabeth Edwards. The younger children of Elizabeth Edwards include Emma Claire, 12, and Jack who is 11, were also at the funeral.
