Elizabeth Taylor is dead at 79. Citing a press release from Taylor's family, ABC News reports that Taylor died while surrounded by friends. This raises questions about the circumstances of Taylor's death and the possibility that euthanasia was involved.

Like Taylor, photographer, activist and vegetarian lifestyle advocate Linda McCartney passed away after a reported improvement in health following a major illness. The death of the former Beatle's wife raised questions due to paperwork confusion, leading some to believe that McCartney opted for euthanasia after Linda's long battle with breast cancer.

While there are no similar paperwork mysteries in Taylor's death, the Oscar-winning actress suffered with congestive heart failure, a leading cause of death among women.

Since Taylor was surrounded by family and friends, it is evident that the end of her life was near (due strictly to the illness) or that she made the choice-or left instructions-concerning her own termination.

While the decision is personal and filled with controversy, the quality of Taylor's life as well as her appearance suffered due to the disease. California law prohibits assisted suicide and there is no evidence that Taylor opted to end her own life.

As one of the world's favorite leading ladies, Taylor is remembered for several starring roles, including that of Cleopatra. A loyal friend and loving family member, Taylor had seven husbands, eight marriages and also battled cancer and alcohol addiction.
