Elizabeth Taylor Gives 'This is It' Rave Reviews Via Twitter
Elizabeth Taylor Uses "Genius" to Describe New Michael Jackson Documentary
On Elizabeth Taylor's Twitter account, at twitter.com/DameElizabeth, she raves about This Is It. In one tweet written yesterday, Elizabeth Taylor tweets: "I truly believe this film should be nominated in every category conceivable." In a previous tweet, Elizabeth Taylor wrote: "It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen." Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson had been friends for over 20 years, and she was by his side, supporting him, during his molestation trial.
This Is It documents the rehearsal performances of Michael Jackson as he prepared himself and his dancers to embark on his new world tour, which was canceled when the pop star suffered heart failure due to drug overdose at the age of 50 earlier this summer. The film captures Michael's private moments and a look into the world tour that never was. The film is directed by Kenny Ortega, a choreographer with previous movie credits of Footloose and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, who was working with Jackson on the staging of the comeback tour.
This Is It arrives in packed theatres on Wednesday, October 28, and will play for a 2-week stint. The documentary is expected to break box office records, as the release is limited and the interest in Michael Jackson is still very high, even months after his death. Critical reviews have not been released yet, but those likely will not matter, as fans of Michael Jackson will ultimately have the last word. The film's Wednesday release almost guarantees it will be the number one movie this weekend, and possibly next weekend.
In addition to the rehearsal documentary, the soundtrack album for This Is It arrives in stores today, which features popular Michael Jackson songs from the film, by order of appearance in the film, as well as a new track from Michael Jackson entitled "This Is It," which was co-written with Paul Anka. Reviews of the soundtrack are positive, even though it's pointed out that it is essentially another version of a greatest hits album. Along with the This Is It soundtrack album, Michael Jackson's entire catalog is expected to get a little bump this week.
