Elkhorn City Official Organises Bone Marrow Drive to Benefit Local Boy

The Counselman of Elkhorn City, Mike Taylor, has set up a bone marrow drive for this Saturday at 12 noon at the Elementary School in Elkhorn City, KY. to benefit Kyle Dean Smith.

Kyle Smith is a 10 year old boy who attends Elkhorn City Elementary and has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He requires a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible.

The students of Elkhorn City Elementary have taken up money to benefit Smith and the community has pulled together to help one of their own.

One of the ways they have done so is that many in the town are volunteering for the test, but not all can afford the fee. It is a swab test. (They swab the inside of your mouth and send it off to see if you are compatable) It costs $25 dollars to be tested. If anyone cannot afford to pay the money, they are getting donations for that and to transport who ever is a match to Cincinnati where the transplant will take place. If anyone does this and is not a match for Smith, their test goes into a bank for anyone who may need it. They will be called when they match someone needing a bone marrow transplant. If, when they are called they have decided not to be a donor, they just have to say no and that is the end of it.

If anyone wants to donate they can contact the Counselman Mike Taylor at home 606 - 754 - 4876 or at work 606 - 754 - 9626.
