Ellaroo Wrap: A Versatile, Beautiful and Strong Baby Carrier

Paige Turner
If you are looking for a cross between a traditional, modern baby carrier, you should look no further than the Ellaroo Wrap. Wraparound baby carriers, better known as wraps, are known for their versatility. The Ellaroo takes this versatility to the next level with a beautiful yet strong wrap.

One of the best things about the Ellaroo Wrap is the beautiful array of color choices. There are currently eight beautiful color-ways available, with a new one on the way. Every year the Ellaroo company holds a color-way contest. Ellaroo fans can create a design they would like to see on a wrap, and then finalists are voted on. The winner will receive the very first wrap made in that color-way. This is a great way to ensure a variety of choices with something new to look forward to every year.

The Ellaroo Wrap is hand-woven in Guatemala by a cooperative of weavers. These weavers take each wrap from undyed 100% cotton thread all the way to a beautiful knotted fringe on each end of the wrap. When you purchase an Ellaroo Wrap you are supporting the artistic efforts of weavers in Guatemala.

Ellaroo Wraps are exceptionally easy to use. They are thinner than most other woven wraps, making it easier to manipulate and tie. They are thicker than gauze wraps, so they stay in place better and don't tend to bunch up. The wraps come in 5 different sizes from a rebozo length of 2.7 meters all the way up to the large 5 meter size. Each wrap is 27" wide, making them safe for back carries. The Ellaroo website states that their wraps are created to be used from birth to 35 pounds. I have personally used my Ellaroo wrap with my small infant and my 33 pound toddler with ease.

The unique "in-between" thickness of the Ellaroo wrap makes it a good choice for any time of year. The wrap is comfortable in warmer weather and is thin enough to be worn comfortably under a jacket or coat in cooler weather.

Caring for an Ellaroo Wrap is easy, too! The website recommends machine washing using the gentle cycle and cold water. You may use a mild detergent. After the wash cycle, the wrap is hung to dry. Brand new wraps are not pre-washed, so it is advisable to wash them separately the first few times. Brand new wraps may also be a little stiff. Baby wearing websites recommend things like ironing and braiding wraps to soften them up. I have found that the Ellaroo wrap softens quickly with wear. Wrapping in different holds will help your wrap get soft and pliable.

When I first began to wrap, I wanted an Ellaroo Wrap. I have not been disappointed with my purchase. I love the feel and weight of my Ellaroo. If you are looking for an absolutely gorgeous and versatile baby carrier, you will find it in an Ellaroo Wrap.
