Update 2: TMZ reports (as yet unconfirmed) that Kara DioGuardi has been fired, and that along with J-Lo, musician Steven Tyler of Aerosmith will be joining the show.
Update 1: Deadline Hollywood says that Jennifer Lopez will be Ellen's replacement.
Ellen DeGeneres was funny and kind on American Idol, and I believe her appointment as a new judge this past season was one of the best things that has happened to the show in a while. It's too bad she has decided not to come back.
She announced on Thursday, July 29, 2010, that she is leaving the show. She said that it "didn't feel like the right fit" for her, citing her busy work schedule and her reluctance to hurt the feelings of the contestants.
She sent a message from her Twitter account that said, "Dim the lights...I've voted myself off American Idol."
She had actually told the network and the show a few months ago that she wanted to leave, but she didn't want to "leave them in a bind," so she held off on making an announcement "until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next."
That certainly seems to suggest that the American Idol powers that be have now found a replacement.
Rumors have already been flying about who will replace Simon Cowell, and most observers believe that Nigel Lythgoe will be returning as a producer. So American Idol has lots of news to release. When will they do it?
On Wednesday, PopWatch on EW.com reported that a "source close to the show" said that FOX's "dream scenario would be to make a splashy announcement" about the various changes at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour on Monday morning, August 2.
I bet that's exactly what will happen.

Post a CommentEllen has too much talent to spend it judging others in this way. No doubt, she will do better and those who replace her, J-Lo included, are sliding backwards.
