Ellen DeGeneres to Replace Paula Abdul on American Idol

September 9, 2009- Ellen DeGeneres broke the news, announcing on her show she was "thrilled" to be chosen as the new judge on the ninth season of American Idol. Since Paula Abdul left the show, viewers have speculated on who would be joining Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi as the 4th judge. As a self proclaimed "huge fan" Ellen sees the choice as a dream come true. If you've ever seen her show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, you know that she is a strong force, a good entertainer, and relates well to her audience. These qualities should quickly propel her to success in her new appointment.

Now that such a popular figure has replaced Abdul, speculation continues on how this might affect the other female judge, Kara DioGuardi. Will Ellen's presence overshadow the not-as-popular Kara? Fans note how the dynamics of the show changed when the number of judges went from three to four. Is hiring on a powerful personality such as Ellen a step toward returning to the 3-judge panel?

Ellen, admittedly a die-hard AI fan, was born on January 26, 1958 in Louisiana. She began her career performing stand-up comedy in coffee houses and small clubs. In 1986, she became the first female comedienne on The Tonight Show to be invited for an on-screen chat with Johnny Carson. Since then, her career has skyrocketed, including both TV and movie credits. To date, Ellen has won numerous awards, including 12 Emmys.

American Idol's creator, Simon Fuller (not to be confused with the AI judge, Simon Cowell), is pleased to have Ellen join the judging panel. He says that "her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch." Ellen feels she will bring a unique perspective to the show, the perspective of "a person who is going to buy the music."

Look for Ellen to join the show after the city-wide auditions are over. Says Ellen, "And think of all the money I'll save from not having to text in my vote."

Wow, I am surprised to read this, two totally different personalities. I enjoy Ellens humor and this might bump the entertainment up a notch.
