In an effort to put this decision into perspective, let's take a look at the other four judges:
You gotta love Simon with his dry British humor and razor sharp wit and tongue. Simon started his career in the mailroom of his Father Eric's company EMI Music Publishing, I'm sure you've heard of it. AT EMI Simon worked his way the corporate ladder eventually becoming a talent scout. In the early 1980's he left EMI and eventually signed on with BMG Records as a consultant. It was here that he signed a string of successful acts that scored BMG 150 million record sales and 70 top charting singles. In 2001 he and Simon Fuller produced Britains Pop Idol, which was an instant success, and led to the American version, American Idol in 2002.
No question about it, this guy knows talent when he sees it.
Randy Jackson
Randy started his music career as a session musician and in that capacity Randy has played with such acts as Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, and Journey. Randy has also taken his talent on the road recording and touring with Jerry Garcia, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, and Modonna. And if that wasn't enough he has also been an executive with Columbia Records and RCA Records.
No question here, the guy not only is talent, he has certainly worked around enough to recognize it when he sees it.
Paula Abdul
Sweet, pretty, Paula. She is the lightest weight among the four. But even as a lightweight, she can claim 30 million records sold, two #1 albums, six #1 singles, and a Grammy Award.
Another no brainer, the girl has earned her seat.
I'll admit when I first saw her on the panel I said "Kara who?" But a quick look at her bio and you find that this is another girl with substance. A Duke University graduate, she started her music career as the assistant to the editor in chief at Billboard Magazine. In 2000 Kylie Minogue's "Spinning Around", which Kara wrote with Paula Abdul, launched Kara's career as a songwriter. Since then her songs have appeared on over 100 million records, with 168 of them appearing on multi-platinum albums. The company she launched in 2006, Arthouse Entertainment was named as #7 on Billboard's Top 10 Music Publishers in 2009. Currently she is the Vice President of A&R at Warner Brothers Records.
All I can say is wow! I'm just wondering why she wasn't one of the original judges.
Ellen Degeneres
Music Industry Bio....
While Ellen is a talented lady, I can't seem to find anything in any of her bios that would suggest she has a clue about anything that would be helpful serving as a judge on a talent show for singers. I mean come on guys, are you kidding me? What gives, couldn't you get Hasselhoff away from his current gig? At least he sings, maybe not Grammy Award Quality, but the dude at least does something in the Industry.
Me thinks season 9 of American Idol is going to suck.

Post a CommentMy first thought was what are they thinking????????????? And I have come to the conclusion I have no clue.........lol.
I have to agree with you. Ellen would not have been my pick for replacing Paula. I realize the lady is extremely funny, but this really does not qualify as a judge. One does have to wonder why she was chosen. It appears to me that they could have done a little more seaching. Well at least she is going to be entertaining..lol
You write very good articles.
