Ellen Leaves American Idol

Denise
Ellen DeGeneres has quit after just one season at American Idol. On Reuters.com, Thursday, I read, she made a statement that judging "didn't feel like the right fit for me." She said it wasn't an easy decision to make, and Fox Network Group understood, and was one hundred percent behind her. I thought she brought a breath of fresh air to the show, because I was not happy when they got rid of Paula Abdul. I really think that when she left, the show went further down hill. No Simon, No Paula, Now no Ellen, they are going to have to think fast and put in two star judges the ratings are going to go further down the hill. On the Today Show this morning, it was said that even Kara could be leaving also. Oh, brother! Here are some people that I think could take her place.

Todd Rundgren
He's a fabulous singer-songwriter, and record producer. To list everything he's done would be like reading an encyclopedia. Todd's songs are timeless, that is why he is one of my favorite musicians. Too many musicians today are putting out garbage, that is in no way or shape and form real music. Todd writes songs on a variety of things, not just love songs. That's why I'd think he'd be perfect for the show. The really cool thing about him is that he doesn't even have to do this for a living! He creates music because he loves it. His former bands were Nazz(Open MyEyes), Utopia,(Love Is The Answer, Fix Your Gaze, Cry Baby, Mated) and The New Cars. His songs have been in films, and commercials-Bang On The Drum(you know the one, 'I don't want to work, I just want to bang on the drum all day') and he's done tons of solo work. I'd think he would be a great, and fair judge for the show.

Sting
This show has to have an Englishman in it, and he doesn't have to be as harsh as Simon, either. I think since Sting is a musician, he's in a better position to judge other musicians.

Selena Gomez
I really liked her in the movie Another Cinderella Story. Why not have a judge that is around the same age as some of the contestants? That's something for the producers to think about.

Whoopi Goldberg
If America still wants a comedian who loves music, then Whoopi would be the one to pick. I don't think she'd be soft, but she would definitely keep it real. I think the judges should have a balance of 2 music Industry professionals, a musician( or musician/actor) and the music lover. She'd fit the music lover role perfectly.

Just For Fun

Sarah Ferguson
Come on, she needs something positive to do after that dreadful scandal, and from what I heard on the Oprah Interview, her 'allowance' each year isn't much. She's English, I don't think she'd be as cruel as Simon, but it'd be cool to have a Duchess be a judge.

Zac Efron
He's talented, cute and would be around the same age as some of the contestants, and a great reason for millions of Americans to tune in every week.

Johnny Depp
He was in a band before, he's gorgeous, he sung in movies, he's really gorgeous, and I think that he would be a fair judge also. A great way to get their ratings back to where they were in season one.

Robert Pattinson
Seriously, if he has no other movies lined up, the ratings would go through the roof for American Idol. When the Idols do those car commercials, they would probably throw in a Twilight theme, hey, wait a minute....didn't they do a commercial with some of them as vampires this past season? Yeah.... It would work.

I'm sorry to see Ellen go, but she didn't really strike me as a person who wanted to judge other people to hurt their feelings. I mean, sometimes, the performers do mess up badly, and it probably bothered her to say that they stunk. Well, not all of us would make good judges. Sometimes it's hard to find the good in a bad performance. I wish Ellen the best, and also the producers of the show. If they don't choose the right people that can replace, Paula, Simon and Ellen effectively, the ratings are going to go down even further.

I agree that American Idol is really going to have to hustle and find 2 great judges. Good article.
