Ellie's First Grade Picnic

The Perfect End to the School Year

S. A. Knight
It was a wonderful Thursday morning and Ellie was very excited because she was getting ready for school and today she would have her first grade picnic in the park near the school.

Her teacher, Mrs. Williams, was bringing Chick Fil A lunches for all the children and her little brother Tripp and mom and Mimi and Gramps were going to be there also. Finally, this was the day for Mimi to pick her up after school and she loved that so much.

The first graders gathered in line and walked over to the park from the school with Mrs. Williams leading the way. Ellie, Victoria, and Hanna walked side by side holding hands as they crossed the wooden bridge connecting the school to the city park.

As Ellie came to the bridge, she saw Gramps with his camera waiting to take pictures of her and her friends. She gave Gramps a wave and a big smile because she was so happy to see him. Gramps just loved to take pictures and he always took lots of pictures of Ellie and her little brother Tripp. Ellie spotted Mimi and she ran and gave her a big hug and a kiss. The class arrived at the covered stand and Ellie and her classmates waited in line to get their bag lunch and then their drinks. Ellie got a can of Diet Coke that was her favorite drink and she and four of her friends found a spot in the park and sat on the ground to eat their lunch. Ellie's mom came over to make sure the girls had napkins and enough food to eat. Ellie loved her mom because she was always there to help at school and she was very proud that her mom always volunteered.

Ellie looked over and saw that Mimi was helping Tripp on the swings and she smiled and waved. Tripp and Mimi were having fun and Gramps was there taking lots of pictures and mom was running around making sure all the kids had everything they needed. This was the perfect ending to her first grade school year and tomorrow was the last day of school and Ellie was looking forward to a fun-filled summer.
