Elliot Spitzer Resigned Last Year Over Sex Scandal

What was He Thinking???

Political scandals have been around since we have. Just opening the Newspaper or turning on the television will bring you the next juicy tidbit from our illustrious capitol. Who needs to watch Comedy Central when we can laugh aloud at the various foibles on display during the news?

I understand that people make mistakes. My frustration comes from our politicians, who are supposed to know better, and don't learn from the mistakes of others. Which is mind boggling, because these scandals have been getting such political play.

One of the most obvious examples of this was the 2008 resignation of NY Governor Elliot Spitzer. Elliot Spitzer was a rising democratic idealist. As Attorney General he became known for rooting out public corruption and going after big business. He earned the moniker of "Elliot Ness" because of his crusading against such corruption.

After easily gaining the Governor's office, there were very high hopes for his future. With his background as Attorney General and his experience in uncovering all this corruption, nothing would tarnish his journey. Well, nothing except stupidity. And his pride.

Apparently, Spitzer, over the course of a few years, was hiring a high-priced prostitute, spending approximately $80,000. Talk about getting caught with your pants down!

This wouldn't have been such a terrible scandal, but having been Attorney General and knowing how they go after odd currency transfers, what was he thinking? Apparently not much!

On March 17, 2008 Elliot Spitzer's resigned. Let's hope the next official learns from his mistakes, but with Washington's record so far, probably not.

I can't help but wonder about those voted into office. Are these the best we have? Should our standards be higher? When the ego is far bigger than what is shown to the public, why doesn't the public react? We need to care more about what is happening. Then, maybe, the sexcapades won't be as important as what else is going on behind those closed doors.

I agree completely. It's when you set yourself up saying how someone else is not moral that you get slammed when you do the same type of thing

It's politicians like Spitzer that really torque me off. I actually don't care about their "indescretions". But don't make a living crusading against people whose morals you share. I would like some honesty in the polital forum, whether it's something I want to hear or not. At least then, they would have my respect.
