Ellwood City, PA, Area Buzzing with Anticipation for July Fourth Festivities

Jason Gallagher
The Ellwood City, PA, area is busy readying itself for its big weekend. If you live in or around town, you already see streets being cleaned, lines and signs being painted, and shrubs being planted. Festival weekend is fast approaching, and many folks are already talking about the great times ahead. Every local resident knows that when summer is here, the festivals and community gatherings are starting to get under way.

The Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, and Food Festival is being held July 3 to 5, 2009 at Ewing Park in town, and of course culminates with a light up the sky fantastic fireworks display from Zambelli Fireworks. Of course, Zambelli is based in nearby New Castle, PA. Speaking of New Castle, from July 2 to 5 the annual Back to the '50's Weekend will be taking place at Cascade Park.

Both towns and local business are displaying posters for the events. Some local businesses even dress like the 1950's, straight out of the malt shop. For us locals that means a great weekend of seeing new and interesting things, and classic cars with great people. Let's not forget that food! Both gatherings will have their share of good eats and cold drinks. Just listening when people gather at the supermarket or anywhere around town, and excitement is building.

Pretty much all the local business know that the exposure brought on by these two events helps keep them in business. From Beaver Falls to Cranberry, hotel rooms will be hard to come by.

Fourth of July in this town is synonymous with the Festival and Back to the '50's. Friends and family come in from out of town just to attend the events. We get some exposure to local artists and performers, we otherwise would have no idea had talent. We get to meet up with old friends, and catch up on the past years' experiences. Of course, the kids always look forward to the fireworks display, and so do many of the adults.

So start making your plans, and start getting things ready. Less than two weeks to go until you are walking around the park, enjoying great music and eating some great food.
