Is the Grass REALLY Greener?

x
Somewhere in Knoxville
Sits a young man with a restless soul

Knoxville sucks, he says to no one

Exhaling the smoke from his Camel
He curses his hometown

I gotta get out of here, man

Setting his beat up old flat-top against the crumbling factory
He daydreams of his daring move

I wanna live in Atlanta. Hell, yeah!

Flipping his long brown hair out of his face
He hits his smoke once more

Knoxville is nowhere, man. Atlanta is alive!
And they have a REAL music scene!
Yeah! Black Crows, B-52's, REM!

Watching the smoke rise through the Mimosa towards the evening summer sun
As a rat runs down the alley

Hotlanta! That's where my break's a-comin'!
Good Riddance, K-Town! Keep your redneck cops and your Bible-Belt ways!
I got Georgia on my mind!

Packing his few belongings in his old high school gym bag
Him and his guitar at the Greyhound station off Cherry Street

With $23.80 to his name
He's on the red-eye to the Home of the Braves
Never to return

Meanwhile

Somewhere in Atlanta...

Great poem. The end sounds like there will be a sequel.

I love this poem! Love how it tells a story. But who knows, maybe some times we luck out and find that the grass is actually greener on the other side.
