E-Mails to Roger Goodell Regarding Michael Vick; Fans Opinions on NFL Reinstatement

Michael Luchies
A couple years back I was able to purchase the domain name RogerGoodell.com. I set up a blog (not currently operating) and recieved countless e-mails directed towards Roger Goodell. I never claimed to be Goodell, or anyone at all affiliated with the NFL, just a fan and an avid blogger and freelance sports writer. Regardless of that fact, the e-mails continued to come in and I decided to compile the Michael Vick e-mails in an article for all to see. These E-mails are all genuine, I will not include their e-mail address or full names. These e-mails are only the ones that have an opinion on whether Michael Vick should be reinstated, I have many others including ones with suggestions on further punishment for Vick and just other comments. Please post a comment if you would be interested in reading more. All e-mails are in the same state as they were sent to me, I have not altered them in any way including spelling errors.

Not In Favor of Michael Vick Being Reinstated Into the NFL

Recieved: December 31, 2008
Dear Roger Goodell,

I am writing to you about Michael Vick, and the possibility of him playing professional football for the NFL in the future. It is my understanding that you are considering reinstating Michael Vick to the NFL following his release from prison. I strongly urge you to ban Michael Vick from the NFL- PERMANENTLY! NFL players are our Nations heroes, with millions of children watching games and aspiring to be just like their favorite players. Please consider the message that you will be sending to our nations youth! Michael Vick had his opportunity to live the good life, but he threw it away quite carelessly. It is time to let some new talent into the game, rather than letting him return. I am a huge football fan, and watching rookies like Felix Jones walk onto the field is a testiment to the fact that there is more than enough talent out there, just waiting to be discovered. If you do reinstate Michael Vick to the NFL, I will boycott the NFL and all of their
sponsors, and urge everyone I can to do the same. I have started a petition to submit to you when the time is right. But I can tell you that in just 2 weeks, It has generated more than 4000 signatures of people that are willing to do the same. I can assure you that I will not stop with this petition, and will be at the frontlines protesting every game he will ever play in, and I guarantee that there will be tens of thousands of people there with me. Instead of reinstating him and marking the NFL with this awful stigma, think of all of the fans that you will be driving away from football. Please please please think of the fans!!!

Thank you so much for your time, Mr. Goodell.

Sincerely,
Caroline

I'm just an average guy so maybe my opinion means nothing, but here it goes anyway. I worked for a company for 9 years. During that time I had some medical problems that on four different occassions kept me out of work, each time was just for a short period. After the last time I needed time off, the company decided not to bring me back. That was nearly four years ago and I was forced to find another job making considerably less money. Now maybe I'm just a bit bitter, but if I can be banned for lifefrom working for that company for a medical problem that was no fault of mine, I believe Vick can be banned for life for knowingly and willingly committing crimes.

Roger Goodell

I am a die hard football fan of 30 years but if you bring back Michel Vick I am done with the NFL.

All the money & prestiege this man had and he had to resort to fighting dogs he should never be allowed in the public eye ever.

Thanks nfljohn1

Dear Mr. Goodell,

-As a resident of Virginia, I am pleading with you to never allow Michael Vick to ever play professional football again.
-Yes, people make mistakes, but Michael Vick made mistakes that are inherent to his ethics and base personality profile. He would do it, or something similar again in the future, guaranteed.
-This is not a question of paying for breaking the governments laws, he has broken the laws of nature and our dear Lord. The mean, unscrupulous, despicable acts he perpetrated on defenseless animals should never be forgiven.
-I pray you will take this email into consideration before making your decision.
-Thank you for your time.

beg of you, please do not reinstate Michael Vick. His cruelty in not only bankrolling the operation, but actually enjoying the torture of animals is beyond comprehension. As a football fan and a lover of fantasy football, I beg you not to ruin this sport that we love by allowing a person of his ilk back into the league.

I am writing to urge you to NOT reinstate Michael Vick to the NFL. He not only enjoyed watching vicious dogs tear each other apart, he KILLED dogs - not by a quick bullet to the brain, but by HANGING, DROWNING and ELECTROCUTION! This is barbaric. He is sub-human. He is a pathetic role model. I urge you to refuse to reinstate him. He is only remorseful about being caught. I'm sure he is wondering what all the fuss is about. I am sure he will cry crocodile tears at any hearing. He will say anything to get back in the game and reap millions. He does not deserve it. I have nothing but contempt for him. You are at risk of incurring the wrath of millions of animal lovers. We will not be silenced. Any team that accepts him will be bombarded with our wrath. C.Sanders

it is a shame that a game like yesterday where both teams played so hard should be decided on the toss of a coin. my team the coltswon already but i have reservations about watching another nfl game. the overtime has to change. both teams need an egual shot. my solution would be another quarter. yes i know they could tie again. you have to come riding in and tell all fans what you are going to do. it must be equal.

The penalty on Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith is totally rediculous!! Deangelo Hall walked with nothing when it was his fault the whole incident started. The two players that were already involved in the penalty were back on the field. Hall came over to the sideline after the play was over and nothing would have happened if he had stayed away. The fine was totally out of line on Coach Smith.

Yes he did pull his time. But he should not be able to go back to his life style as he knew it.The philadelphia eagles will be the most hated team in the NFL.

If you have ever seen a dogfight, or seen dogs after a fight you would cry. These dog fight promoters and low-lives even throw little dogs and baby piglets into the ring for laughter and amusement. Vick is the world's lowest form of scumbag and should not be allowed to come back to the NFL. The other NFL players and owners should refuse to enter the field with Vick and his team.

Vick is a disgrace to the NFL and humanity. He's a punk kid is ghetto as they come. I mean who in their right mind fights dogs for profit (entertainment, or anything like that)? That is disgusting and I will never ever forgive him for that. He didn't stop b/c he wanted to he stopped because he got caught. Anyone who kills an innocent animal the way it was described that he did should not be allowed to play in the NFL EVER! It's not a right to play ball, it's a privilege. I feel sorry for the team that possibly picks him up as many many fans are going to turn away. Believe me when I say that he's a piece of crap that should have been beaten in prison the way he beat those poor little pups. Ban Michael Vick!!!!

As a teacher I am thoroughly disgusted to think Michael Vick could be allowed to return to the NFL! He behaved as a serial killer does, horribly taking advantage of life that could not defend itself. Lying about it on his love for his mother. He killed for fun, he didn't need the money did he? He has done nothing to show any remorse. He can earn a living, dig ditches, we don't want to ever see him again!
