A televised report on the recent Florida Quran-burning discussion shows that even big-time media outlets need the help of good editors.
"Quran Bunring"
During the recent heated debate spurred by a Florida minister threat to burn Islam's holy book, the Quran (Koran), an MSNBC television screen marquee showed not one - but two - embarrassingly obvious editorial mistakes. One portion of the screen caption for US President Obama's public discussion of the Quran burning is entitled "Quran Bunring" - wording which prompts one to recall images of rubber seat cushions designed for people with especially sensitive rear ends.
A rear-ended editorial play on anatomy? Or perhaps these special seat cushions are designed for folks who prefer to sit - rather than kneel - in the Mosque for prayers. Unthinkable!
"Unisured"
As if one error wasn't enough, another mislabeling of a hot issue relates to public healthcare. The same televised screen shows, "CVS & Walgreens to Provide Flu Shots to Unisured".
Where Are MSNBC's Editors?
With siren calls about the nation's decline in educational quality being sounded more frequently than ever, perhaps the first (or last?) bastion of informational authority many look to is television. In seeing that even big-time television outlets such as MSNBC don't have their copy-editing acts together, where does one turn for quality?
