Embarrassing Moments Caused by Kids: Peed on in Public

Priscilla - Young Texas Mommy of 3
When we first moved to Austin, I was home alone with three, very small children. Being desperate for friends, I checked out a website, Cafemom.com. I found a forum of people from my area, and quickly put myself out there, saying that I was desperate for an adult conversation. Quickly, some other mother's responded, people that were in the same boat as me, but just weren't into the whole 10 dollars per child play date, or Gymboree type of environment. We scheduled a time to meet at our local mall, which has a nice soft play area, with lots of things to climb on, some cars, slides, and tunnels.

I was extremely nervous, and to calm my fears I went a bit overboard getting dressed. Instead of throwing my hair up into it's usual ponytail, I curled it, put my make up on, made sure my nails were painted, etc. I got the kids dressed, and we headed out.

We got there on time, and were having a pretty good time for the first half hour or so. There were about four other families there and everything was going great. And that's when I felt it, my shirt, crotch, and leg, were suddenly wet and warm. Having just had my baby a month earlier, my first thought was "Well, it's not my water, I wonder if I tore something."

When I looked down, I noticed that William (who I was holding), was also soaked. He had peed and overflowed his diaper. Now I was stuck at this play date, and hiding a huge urine stain behind my baby. I got up as quickly as possible and took him over to a changing station to see what happened. Somehow the tab on one side of his diaper had come lose and so his diaper was hanging off.

I got him cleaned up, and returned to the group, explaining what had happened. They all laughed and sympathized with me, having had similar situations themselves. I wanted to stay, but since I was still soaked, we left.

They remain our playgroup ever since, but I've never lived down being peed on at the playground!
