Indeed July 13 is a day to celebrate and embrace your inner geekiness. So, are you a geek? Then join the celebration. This is the day to take great pride in your geekiness. After all, without geeks we would not have many marvelous inventions and creations that we can't simply do without today.

Geek Definition

So, exactly what is a geek? The definition for geek has meant different things at different times in history. Lets go back several decades in time and we discover that the term geek was used in the circus or carnival. At first the term was used to describe any type of performer in the traveling circus. Then it was specifically used to describe a carnival performer who acted completely wild and untamed. These 'geeks' usually were the performers who liked to bite off the heads of chickens, bats, snakes, or any kind of bugs around. Fast forward a few decades and the term geek is also interchangeable with nerd or dork. One famous celebrity described nerds or dorks as overly intelligent but poorly socialized individuals who are obsessed with intellectual pursuits.

Many think being labeled a geek is an insult. Actually, geeks should be proud and embrace the essence of their geekiness. After all it takes the mind and enthusiasm of a geek to get things done properly. Many of the most famous inventions and discoveries were first brought to the forefront by those who might have been labeled geeks. And wouldn't you know it, quite a few geeks grow up to become rich and famous.
