A Human's Guide to Not Killing Yourself

Tonya Smith
It is really hard to understand that something that you have to have to live can kill you. Food is a nessesity to sustain life; drugs are not. Why is it then that you can be addicted to food just as easily as you can be addicted to drugs. I have struggled with the food that I eat for about twelve years now. I can sustain my weight, but each year I would sit around and gain about 15 to 20 pounds. I was bored. Bored, and hungry. I would eat because I didn't go out and exhert myself. I was too young for a drivers license, and my dad worked all the time. I didn't have a mother to take me back and forth to dance class. I lived in the deep south and all things are at least fifteen miles away.

This brought me up to the place where I am at now. I am 27 years old, borderline diabetic, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and overweight. But not for long. My husband and I have realized what we can and can't have. This is how we are doing it.

1. Cut out as much sugar as you can. Yes, have a nibble about once every three months.

2. Eat as many whole things as you can. This means that if you have to open a plastic package, you shouldn't eat it.

3. Stay on the outside skirt of you local grocery store where all the departments are. Deli, produce, etc. These areas are your friend. The inside isles of the store are evil and you should stay away.

4. Do some type of exercise everyday. Remember adults, sex is a great exercise.

5. Make your dinner or lunch calm and relaxing and enjoy the food that you are eating.

I hope these tips lead to a more happier and healthier life for you.
